Greetings,
I hope you’re doing well on this sunny, and if you’re reading this, civic, Saturday. As some of you know, I’ve been working on the bkcb6 app and its corresponding citywide civic guide. But as noted at Wednesday’s meeting, and evident from this email's existence, I’m getting back in the newsletter groove, and I’ve got a few things to go over.
First, you’ve got some time to vote early in this year's primary elections. If you don’t have the who, what, and where of this year's election memorized, go to bkcb6.app/poll-finder-bk and you’ll find where, depending on the address, you can vote, what offices from from Congress to county committee seats you’ll be voting on and who is on your ballot.
Second, as you may have learned in publications with greater reach than this newsletter, Mayor Mamdani and NYC DOT announced that the Carroll Street Bridge will reopen as a dedicated pedestrian-and-cyclist connection across the Gowanus Canal. Last year, Brooklyn Community Board 6, with major credit to Doug, Mandi, and Muppet, was the first to propose keeping the bridge closed to cars and repurposing it for walking and cycling. Since then, I did my best Andy Dufresne impression, writing a steady stream of letters to DOT pushing for pedestrianization. A big thank you to Council Member Hanif, who deserves significant credit for embracing the idea and helping move it forward. It’s always nice to see our recommendations become reality.
Third, there are a bunch of items listed below, like tonight’s pride parade, a suggestion for the MTA, and more maps. I suggest you scroll and check them out, but more importantly, I hope the next time I send a newsletter, “Knicks in five" will be another recommendation that becomes reality.
Mike Racioppo, District Manager
Brooklyn Community Board 6
