OHIO 211: Serving Your Constituents

211 matches callers' needs to available community resources.

Using a robust database of resources from private and public health and human service agencies, 211 is a free, 24/7/365 service provided by fourteen organizations across the state of Ohio. Ohio 211 matches callers’ needs to available community resources, and links them to an organization that can provide resources including food, housing, utilities assistance, health care, transportation, child care, employment opportunities, mental health crises, disaster information and assistance, and more.

Ohio 211s are very diverse. They are located within Community Action Agencies, libraries, mental health agencies, social service organizations and United Way agencies and offer a variety of programs in their areas. By calling 211 your constituents can be connected to many resources that they may be unaware of.

Solar Eclipse 2024

As we fast approach the April 8th Solar Eclipse event, many of our residents, and those from out of state too, are looking forward to this event. The next solar eclipse won't take place for another 20 years. The most important item to convey to our residents is their safety. Click here to access a pdf flier on eye safety. The Ohio EMA also has a website for residents to visit.

211s across the state will be prepared to assist during the event. Because some towns may actually double in population for the eclipse, local emergency management, healthcare and mental health systems, gas stations and more could become a bit strained with the influx of people.

It is important to let people know that traffic may be one of the biggest concerns across the state as many of the hotels, campgrounds, cabins, vacation rentals have been booked for months. We urge people to be calm. Fill up your tanks with gas before coming or going, put some extra food and water in the car in case of extra long waits, and be sure to be patient.

MOBILITY MANAGEMENT Getting Where You Need to Go

Fairfield County 2-1-1’s Mobility Manager, Jeff Schmelzer, participated in Ohio Loves Transit Week last year. He met with Ohio Senator Tim Schaffer and other elected officials at the State House to celebrate the positive impact that transit has on our communities.

Mobility Management helps provide access to jobs, education, and health care while allowing the community members to live independently and engage in community life.

The program designs and delivers transportation services that are customer focused. It began with a community vision where the entire transportation network - public transit, private operators, cycling and walking, volunteer driver, and others - work together with customers, planners, and stakeholders to deliver the transportation options that best meet the community's needs.
