A New Year Message From Our Team

As we step into a new year, our team at Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County is filled with gratitude and hope. This photo represents the staff who show up every day — across our ReStores, offices, and build sites — working together to strengthen our community and help families achieve the stability of home.

Thank you for being part of this mission with us. Because of you, we look ahead to another year of building homes, community, and hope. Together, we build.

A Story of Dignity: When Repairs Become Life-Changing

Ms. Franklin, a wheelchair user, was referred to Habitat Forsyth’s Repair Program through our partnership with Senior Services. Prior to this collaboration, she had reached out to the City’s Community Assistance Program (CAPS) seeking critical home repairs but was placed on a waitlist with no projected timeline for assistance.

Due to her mobility limitations, Ms. Franklin relies on in-home support services to assist with daily activities, including bathing. Her home was equipped only with a traditional bathtub, creating a significant safety and accessibility barrier. Through our partnership with Senior Services, Habitat Forsyth was able to complete a full bathroom accessibility upgrade. This included the installation of a fully renovated walk-in shower, as well as relocating the water access and shower control handle to a position that better accommodates her wheelchair use and reach.

Throughout the repair process, Ms. Franklin’s positivity and infectious spirit left a lasting impression on the entire repair team. Her bubbly energy and gratitude made her an absolute joy to work with. Upon completion, she shared how meaningful the repair was, stating that she could finally enjoy showering safely and independently, and joking that she might start charging anyone who wanted to use her new shower.

Stories like Ms. Franklin’s reflect the core mission of Habitat Forsyth’s Repair Program: to support community members in need by providing affordable or no-cost critical repairs that allow homeowners to age safely, comfortably, and with dignity in their own homes.
