"You must be the change you want to see in the world"
Mahatma Gandhi
Dear Southern Door Community,
How different things are for our children these days than when some of us went to school! So, how can we "be the change" our children and our community needs? Motivational speaker, Steve Mariboldi says, "When you are living the best version of yourself, you inspire others to live the best versions of themselves." Our words and actions have a ripple effect on our students, on our coworkers, families, and in our community.
Spring is one of my favorite times of the year, as we begin our celebrations of our students' accomplishments. From the Fine Arts Fest to the concerts, to the small steps of progress each day that are made toward achieving our goals. None of those things happen magically, but are, instead, the result of hard work, dedication, passion, and the support provided by others.
It is said that "spring arrives blossom by blossom." Take the time in your lives to acknowledge the "blossoms" that are occurring in your life and that of others. What better time than spring, to celebrate all the changes that have happened since last fall, and pledge to making a few more, as we all do our part in making our community Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

MAPLE SYRUP BOIL A HUGE SUCCESS - THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!
On a sunny and breezy March 26, Southern Door community members and High School students volunteered their time and talents to conduct the annual maple sap boil at the SD Sugar Shack for all Elementary students and teachers. As an added feature this year, we also had an open house at the Nature Center all day for Elementary students and teachers. Both the boil and open house were much enjoyed by all, based on the volume of excited student and teacher voices at both!
The boil was supervised by Terry Vogel, with help from Jim Marin and Bruce Kokko. SD High School Students from Ms. Ann Glowacki’s Forestry Class, including Kelsey Todd, Thomas Grosbeier, Aidan Robillard and Nate Wessel, provided demonstrations of tapping and collecting sap from a maple tree the entire day. Jamie Schmiling, Colleen Michiels and Kim Valley treated students and teachers to a taste of 2018 vintage SD maple syrup. SD High School Students from Ms. Deb Ehlers’ FACE Class, including Riley Nellis, Ben Richling, Lauri Puupponen, Lizzy Bretl, Brittany Dantoin, Mason Massart, James Rudy and Harley Rhodes, provided some afternoon help at the tasting table.
At the Nature Center Bruce Kokko and Mike Toneys welcomed students and teachers to the wonders in the Nature Center. SD High School Students from Ms. Ehlers’ FACE class, including Hans Golwitzer, Tyler Edwards, Trae Kluth, Kobey Suda, Josh Ditello and Jordan Hoeckendorff, chipped in to help in the afternoon.
Mr. Vogel estimates he has about two gallons of finished syrup.
