Summer Program for Rising Seniors

Over the summer, the rising Senior High School Fellows have an opportunity to participate in our summer program.

Students will be working on everything they need to get ready for financial aid, the common app, scholarship applications, essays, and the college list. Our summer book and discussion will help them think about the costs and benefits of going away to college and "making your home among strangers."

Governor’s Hispanic Fellows

For the second summer in a row, we're thrilled to have a Governor's Hispanic Fellow working with More Than Bootstraps. We want to give Ismel the chance to introduce herself to the community:

"It is my pleasure to introduce myself as Ismel Martinez Sanchez, a Fellow in the Governor's Hispanic Fellows Program for the Summer of 2023. The New Jersey Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development's eight-week internship program provides guidance and professional development opportunities.

An ambitious, independent young woman, I am enrolled at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, where I intend to double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology. While in college, I volunteer for New Brunswick High School. It is an honor for me to be involved as a volunteer coach of the Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball team which I hold dear to my heart because athletics was an important source of mentorship for me.

As I continue my education, I look forward to giving back to my community and bringing awareness to the various opportunities for first-generation students such as myself.

While I am proud of what I have accomplished with my education and this fellowship program, I also have my own challenges and areas where I am still developing. I want to encourage other young people who may worry about their English imperfections or public speaking: You can do it!"

And we're excited to share that one of our own College Student Leaders, Ashley, was also selected to be a Governor's Hispanic Fellow this summer! (read more)

Ashley will spend her summer interning at the Immigration and American Citizenship Organization (IACO) in Passaic.

Please join us in congratulating Ashley and welcoming Ismel to the MTB community!

MTB Presentations Led by Fellows

Our students are the best people to talk about the ins and outs of More Than Bootstraps and the value of the program. Recently four of our High School Fellows - Celine, Roselyn, Yessenia, and Jasmin - led a presentation for rising sophomores about MTB and higher education.

Congratulations to the winners of our graduation cap contest! MTB Former Fellow and New Leader Roselyn was our top vote-getter and overall winner. Check out the top four winning designs, including Alyssa's entry which tied for third place.
