Our 10th Save of Christmas

For the 10th Save of Christmas, we got something white as snow, 12-year-old Vanilla. Her life took a heartbreaking turn, after her beloved owner passed away, she was entrusted to someone who promised to care for her. Instead, this person surrendered Vanilla to the shelter, leaving this sweet senior girl alone and confused.

We first met Vanilla when we were at the shelter picking up a different cat. Shelter staff mentioned a second senior, Vanilla, had also recently been surrendered. When we saw her sad face, we knew we couldn’t let her story end there. Her soft, squinty eyes and marshmallow fur captured our hearts. It also didn’t hurt that our founder, Janet, has a soft spot for white cats. So, one senior became two, and we brought Vanilla to JSCR.

At first, we thought Vanilla’s constant squinting might be the result of an eye infection or other health problems. We wanted to ensure she wasn’t in pain, but after several vet visits and tests, we learned Vanilla’s squint is simply part of her unique charm. She’s completely healthy, just adorably squinty.

While Vanilla is shy, she’s also deeply affectionate. She loves sleeping with her foster mom, and when her foster mom gets up in the middle of the night, Vanilla follows her and races her back to bed, as if to say, “You’re not going anywhere without me!”

We truly couldn’t give cats like Vanilla a life full of warmth, safety, and joy without your support. Thank you for being part of Vanilla's journey! This sweet girl, like all the seniors in our care, would love if you could brighten their holidays by making a monetary gift or by sending them something from our wishlists.

As we approach the final days of our 12 Saves of Christmas, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who donated so far! Your generosity means the world to us—and to the cats! They can't wait to open their gifts, not only for the goodies inside but also for the fun of playing in the boxes. We all know how much cats love their boxes.

It’s because of compassionate people like you that we are able to give these cats a second chance and a brighter future. Your kindness is making a real difference. We truly couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for being part of our family, and for sharing in the joy of this holiday season.
