May is National Arthritis Awareness Month
May is National Arthritis Awareness Month and the AAWP aims to raise awareness about Arthritis, a common yet often misunderstood condition that affects millions of people worldwide.
According to the latest statistics, Arthritis affects approximately 54 million adults in the United States alone. Among those, African Americans bear a disproportionate burden. Research shows that African Americans have higher rates of arthritis-related disability and are more likely to experience severe joint pain compared to other racial and ethnic groups.
Understanding the unique challenges faced by the African American community, organizations like the AAWP are working to provide education, resources, and support for individuals living with Arthritis.
To learn more about Arthritis, its impact on the African American community, and the valuable resources offered by the African American Wellness Project, visit our website at www.AAWellnessProject.org. Together, let's spread awareness, support those affected, and work towards a future where Arthritis is better understood and managed.

Early Breast Cancer Screening Critical
for Black Women
About 1 in 8 women will develop Breast Cancer in the course of their lifetime and Black women will experience a higher mortality rate from Breast Cancer. Additionally, Black women in the DC, MD and VA areas have the highest rate of Breast Cancer. This is why it's critically important to get a Breast Cancer screening before the age of 50.
With this, the AAWP recently had the pleasure to work with University of Maryland graduate student,
Oluwalayomi Omolola, who selected the AAWP as her nonprofit to partner with around this important issue for her Capstone project.
Oluwalayomi gathered information about Breast Cancer in the Black community and its affect on Black women in the DC area. She debunked some myths and shared mammogram tips in this infographic she created for AAWP.
