CHAPTER LEADERSHIP MUSINGS | | | |
Who's In The Room?
David Levy, Summit Investment Management / Keen-Summit Capital Partners
| | |
When I initially joined TMA and attended my first restructuring event, I quickly realized that even with years of business experience, I didn’t completely understand what many of the people I met actually did. What exactly is a “Claims Agent” and do they work in insurance? Aren’t all loans “Asset-Based Loans”? Is a “Financial Advisor” going to give me a stock tip?
It turns out I wasn’t alone, as other new members tell me they have the same issue. Our industry is built on deep specialization, and while that’s part of what makes it so effective, it can also be intimidating to newcomers. That’s why, as Chapter President, I wanted to create a tool that would help members—especially new ones—get oriented faster and more confidently. Read on for an exciting announcement...

ELIZA BERESH
Eliza Beresh is a recent graduate of Jones College Preparatory High School in Chicago, Ill. During her four years at Jones, she enjoyed playing on the girls tennis team and her role as co-captain of the varsity team her senior year, writing and editing for the school newspaper, and spending three years on student government. She will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the fall and majoring in sociology. She would like to shout out her dad, Matt Beresh, a Senior Managing Director at Accordion, who has been an active TMA member for 20 years and currently serves as the co-chair of the Capital Marketplace Committee, for sponsoring her submission. While she loves her dad dearly, she does not intend to use her sociology degree to follow in his footsteps.

JAYLA MARCUS
My name is Jayla Marcus. I recently graduated from Highland Park High School as a valedictorian. Next year, I will be attending Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. My major is undecided, but I am currently looking into studying English, sociology, and/or film, although I am keeping my options open. The sponsor of my submission is my father, Micah Marcus, who is a restructuring lawyer and has been assisting companies with corporate turnarounds for about 25 years. Outside of school, I am very passionate about the arts, especially theatre. I have been acting for nine years, and I was also chosen by my high school as one of two head writers for a fully student written musical. I hope to keep writing in the future. I am also very interested in language as a whole, and I plan to continue studying both Spanish and French.

MORGAN RIDGWAY
I am incredibly honored to have been selected as a recipient of the $3,000 scholarship from the Turnaround Management Association. This generous award will directly support my educational journey as I begin a new chapter—pursuing admission to Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, located near the University of Notre Dame. I will be using this scholarship to help fund my transition into the Master of Accountancy program at the University of Notre Dame, a program that reflects both my passion for the field and my long-term professional goals.
I am deeply grateful to TMA for investing in my future. Opportunities like this make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, and I am sincerely thankful to be among those chosen. This scholarship affirms my dedication to academic excellence and professional integrity, and I’m excited to carry that forward in all that I do.
