35,700+ Views? What gives?
Jim has quite a following on LinkedIn and uses it to promote volunteerism and activism to help those hurting in Indianapolis. After an event at the Marion County Jail, aimed at helping inmates with future job opportunities, Jim posted this picture to his 8500 or so connections.
Today the posting has been 'viewed' now by more than
four times
that number (pushing 36,000) and 'liked' by 700+ people, most who are unknown to us. What gives?
We think this is solid evidence that people
do
care about those who need a hand up, and while most don't know how to help, there is a small army of us in Indianapolis who are working to involve them in the work of
actual engagement.
Those "views" and "likes" are a start, but that won't get the job done.

The language of the despondent and traumatized spoken here.
Last week Christian Theological Seminary’s Faith and Action Push Back Poverty event hosted Father Greg Boyle, author of "Tatoos on the Heart" and founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang intervention rehab operation in US. He says, "gang violence is not 'about something' it is the language of the despondent and the traumatized." The good news? There are ways to save those who suffer in poverty and violence. Thanks to Faith And Action for the great event!

Once in a while He shows up so miraculously and magnificently...
How many of us have looked to the heavens and said these words. “Lord, if you really have a plan for us...,” heal our child, help me with this debt, make the flooding stop, save my marriage. You name it, we’ve asked. These two high school seniors got a quick and amazing answer when they said those words and inspired all those who heard their story.

Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee's Race and Cultural Relations Network
deals with a wide range of issues that affect how we all get along in a city of folks from varied backgrounds and beliefs. UNITE INDY works closely with this group which often assists in the peace process when there is violence in our city. This month's meeting addressed current important legislative efforts with a panel including representatives from The Children’s Policy and Law Initiative of Indiana, Jewish Community Relations Council, Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana, and Indiana Institute for Working Families.

UNITE INDY
has
LOT
of plans!
Seems like a 'God thing' to us that the lot next door to our new office at 241 W. 38th Street just happened to be vacant. Apparently the home burned down a few years ago and so there it was, just waiting for us. The owner, who has a charitable work-in-progress of her own, sold the land which will allow us to have parking for a few cars--supporting our efforts to gather together with those who have joined in the effort to unite our city. Prayers going up for easy city approval and $$ for paving! Our thanks to former owner, Sharon Clark (Butler U. Volleyball coach extraordinaire.)

You can help build bridges in our community! Any Amount is appreciated!
Almost 1 out of every 3 children in Indianapolis lives below the poverty level, yet our economy is roaring, and unemployment is at a historic low. But all this good news stops at the lines surrounding many of our inner city neighborhoods. In some neighborhoods of Marion County unemployment exceeds 20%. and poverty remains the overwhelming divider of people.
UNITE INDY is connecting people every day to make a difference for those in our city who live in in perpetual want. It builds bridges of understanding between those who need help and those who can help.
