UNRWA Gaza 5k Walk/Run

Sunday, August 3

8:00AM - 12:00PM

6046 West Lake Sammamish Pkwy, NE

Marymoor Park, Redmond WA

UNRWA USA is bringing its most iconic event to the Pacific Northwest for the very first time. This is your chance to provide critical psychosocial support to the millions impacted by the ongoing Israeli military assault on Gaza. This event includes an optional 5K walk/run, fundraising prizes, community, and as much Palestinian culture as we can squeeze into your morning. The Gaza 5K is your chance to meet and connect with folks who share your solidarity and commitment to the mental well-being of refugees.

Since 2012 this annual  event has united communities across the US in solidarity to fund mental health counseling and trauma support for Palestine refugee children. More than a race, it’s a fun way to take action, experience Palestinian culture, and show Palestine refugees that Americans care.

You don’t have to run. Walk, cheer, or fundraise (the most important part) to support life-saving UNRWA services—but everyone must register in advance.

RCF BOARD MEMBER JEN MARLOWE in conversation with Defense for Children International- Palestine, about her film"Severed"

Wednesday, July 9

9:00 am PST/12:00 pm EST

Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP) is hosting a virtual screening of Donkeysaddle Projects' new short film, "Severed" on July 9, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers. This is a special film that you don't want to miss.

Documentary filmmaker, journalist, and RCF board member Jen Marlowe recently wrote about her new short film, "Severed." This is the story of Mohamad Saleh, an 18-year-old from Gaza who has lived through five major assaults on the Gaza Strip. In those attacks, he lost his home, family members, his best friends, and, at the age of 12, his leg.Now living in exile in Egypt, Mohamad struggles to piece together the shattered fragments of his life. Through his eyes, we see the pain and trauma endured by thousands in Gaza, alongside their remarkable strength, resilience, and determination to live.

Olympia Events

Peace Vigil Every Friday

4th & Water Street, Downtown Olympia

4:30-6:00 PM

We continue to gather and advocate for Palestinians to remain safely in Gaza, and for peace with justice. We also seek to bring attention to people detained without charge and to advocate for our first amendment rights.

People in Gaza continue to face unconscionable starvation imposed by the Israeli government and military. Join us today and every Friday to say "FEED GAZA NOW!" If you can, please bring your own sign with that message, or come and use one of our other signs calling for a free Palestine. Bring a friend!

Thanks to the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation for organizing these peace vigils through the years, and for inviting us to share this space. Join us every week at Percival Landing, in downtown Olympia. It’s important we remain visible in our collective work for peace.

Kids for Palestine

Gather with other families at Woodruff Park, in West Olympia (near the tennis and pickleball courts) every Sunday, 1-4 pm, to support Palestine through conversation and art in a kid-friendly event.

CONTINUE YOUR CALLS AND EMAILS TO THE WHITE HOUSE, and to Congress, emphasizing the need for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and unfettered access to aid for Gaza.

Use of and Supply of weapons

On June 5, several members of Congress, including Rep. Jayapal in Washington, introduced a first-of-its kind House bill to block some weapons to Israel. Write to Congress and tell them to support H.R.3565 - "To provide for a limitation on the transfer of defense articles and defense services to Israel."

Following the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear sites, bipartisan resolutions were introduced in the House and Senate calling for no use of U.S. military forces against Iran without Congressional approval.   S.J.Res.59 failed to pass in the Senate, with a vote of 47-53.  Tell Representatives in the House to support H.Con.Res.38.

Nuclear Weapons

Our partners at Washington Against Nuclear Weapons tell us that the NewSTART nuclear arms control treaty between the US and Russia is set to expire next year. The agreement limits the number of actively deployed nuclear warheads to 1,500 at any given time, greatly reducing the risk of a miscalculated launch or nuclear accident.

Write to your Senators to support S. Res 61 in the Senate, and your Representative in Congress to support H. Res 100, both of which call for international cooperation to reduce nuclear weapons, and the threat of nuclear war.

Call or write now! Your Senators and Representative in Congress need to hear from you.

Look up your Senators and Representative here and write your own message.
