Living Saints
This Sunday we reflect on Living Saints. These are the people whose faith, generosity, compassion, and presence have shaped our lives. Who has been a living saint for you?
As we prepare for All Saints Day and Commitment Sunday on November 1, consider how your life and generosity might become part of someone else's story.
What Will Remain? devotional
Week 3 Reflection — Living Saints
Sugar River is more than a building. It’s a community of living saints.
We experience that community when someone welcomes us, sits beside us, listens to our story, brings a meal, teaches a child, visits someone who is lonely, serves a neighbor, speaks up for justice, or simply shows up when we need someone. This happens because people give their time, gifts, resources, prayer, presence, and love.
This week, think of someone who has been a living saint in your life.
Who shows you what faith looks like, makes you feel welcome or offers grace when you need it? Who helps you become more fully the person God created you to be? How might you become that kind of person for someone else?
Our stewardship is part of that answer. Next Sunday is All Saints Day and Commitment Sunday. We will remember those whose lives touched ours and give thanks for the faith, love, and generosity they gave to us. Think about what you have received from the living saints in your life and what you might pass on to someone who comes after you. Please bring your commitment card Sunday, November 1 or submit it online via the website at https://onrealm.org/sugarriverumc/AddPledge/2027.

Explore the River - New Member Class
November 1, 10:45am
Have you been making connections at Sugar River Church? We want to welcome you to the family and help you grow in faith.
We’d like to invite you to our Explore the River class to learn more about the church and consider joining as members. It’s also a great opportunity to meet some other people who are new or new-ish to the church. We’re going to be meeting on Sunday, November 1, after worship, and we’d love it if you could join us.
Please let us know if you are coming, or, if this date doesn't work for you, let us know and we will find a time and date that does!

2027 Youth Mission Trip - Sign Up Now!
Youth are invited to be part of our 2027 Youth Mission Trip, July 10–18, as we travel with Next Step Ministries to Columbia, South Carolina for a week of service, faith, learning, and fun.
Registration is now open! Youth and adult participants should sign up by November 1 using the online registration form:
2027 Youth Mission Trip Registration Form
A $100 non-refundable deposit per participant is required to reserve your spot.
It is still too early to know the final cost of the trip, but we are currently estimating approximately $1,000 per person. Our hope is to raise as much of that cost as possible through fundraising so that finances are not a barrier to participation. Last year, for example, our fundraising efforts reduced the amount participants needed to pay out of pocket to just $200 per person. While we cannot guarantee the same results this year, our goal is to make the trip as affordable as possible.
Want to learn more before signing up? An optional informational meeting will be held on Sunday, October 18, at 6:00 p.m. at Sugar River UMC. We'll share more about the trip, what to expect, fundraising, travel, and answer any questions.
Attendance at the informational meeting is not required to participate. Youth are welcome to sign up now even if they cannot attend the meeting.
We hope you'll consider being part of this meaningful week of serving together, growing in faith, building relationships, and making a difference!

Veterans Day Food Drive
Once again this year Sugar River United Methodist Church will conduct a food drive to stock the food pantry at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital for Veterans Day. Thanks to the incredible generosity of all the donors, the VA has been able to successfully set up food pantries at the main Hospital as well as at the Madison East Clinic, Baraboo Clinic, Rockford Clinic, Beaver Dam Clinic and the West Madison Clinic. Consequently, the need for food donations is even greater this year.
The food pantries serve Veterans at risk for potential food insecurities. A Veteran is considered at risk for food insecurity if they have recently run out of food before being able to purchase more or have worries about running out of food before being able to purchase more.
The following are the most needed items:
. Instant oatmeal
. Pasta (whole wheat, gluten free, etc.)
. Rice (instant/microwavable)
. Mac n Cheese (boxed or single serve)
. Canned vegetables
. Canned fruit and fruit cups
. Apple sauce
. Chicken (Pouches or Cans)
. Tuna (Pouches or Cans)
. Nuts/seeds or Trailmix
. Peanut butter/nut butters
. Canned beans
. Pasta sauces
. Canned soup
. Granola bars Beverages
. Tea bags
. Instant coffee
Please place your donations on the table in the Narthex labeled Veterans Day by Sunday November 8. There will also be additional shopping lists on the table.
Please contact Carol Hagensick in you have any questions. cahagen@charter.net 608-469-3358
