We are gearing up for our 4th Annual Como Homo Pride Event on Sunday, June 30th from 1-3pm at the Como Lakeside Pavilion - a family friendly Pride Event! Join us at the Como Pavilion for social activities, kids crafts/games, face painting, snacks, live music, community connections and much more!
Como Homo will again host a pageant for the best costume in the following categories:
- Rainbow Everywhere! (using rainbow flag)
- Trans Flag Fabulous (using trans flag)
- Pride is a Riot (protest outfit)
- Drag the House Down (drag look)
- Big Gay Family (family ensembles)
- Pet Pride (pet outfit)

Know Your Como: Weeding, Wedding or Gardening!!

After a beautiful spring the gardens on Midway Parkway are growing and starting to glow!! As the flowers shine the weeds also make their presence known. We are looking for community volunteers to assist with the gardens at Hamline/Midway Parkway and Arona/Midway Parkway.
There will be new signs posted this year due to the confusion between weeding and wedding. We captured photos of some neighbors working on the gardens last fall. Read more...

D10 Community Meeting- 1st Wednesdays - July 3, 7pm
Hybrid on Zoom and @ Como Streetcar Station (1224 Lexington Pkwy)
The first Wednesday of every month typically hosts our Environment and Neighborhood Relations committee topics for discussion and planning, as well as guest presentations related to those issues. Occasionally time sensitive Land Use and Board/Organizational items are included on the agenda as well.
Next week we will check-in on our Lake Como Cleanups, debrief this weekend's Como Homo event, get Como Rec Centers programming updates, and go over final plans for our July 12 Ice Cream Social. Open to all, come join us!

Save The Date: Lake Como Cleanup - July 9
Tue, July 9 5pm-dusk, sign-in at Como Pavilion Lakeside (down by the docks)
We're planning our next Como lakeshore cleanup for Tuesday, July 9, 5pm-dusk. These events, in partnership with the Capitol Region Watershed District, focus on the shoreline and Lake Como itself.
District 10 provides volunteer t-shirts(!) trash-grabbers, rakes, buckets, nets, trash bags, and nitrile gloves for those who need them. Or, feel free to provide your own gear. Registration (before July 9) is not required, but it helps us plan and communicate if changes come up.
D10 Lake Cleanup Lead Coordinator and Rock and Roll Correspondent Mike Ireland was honored for his volunteering this week at the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy's Party for the Parks event in Como Park. You can see him promoting the cleanups (twice) in WCCO's preview of the event!

New in 2024: Como Neighborhood Cleanup Kits!
The Como Community Council, in partnership with the Capital Region Watershed District, is now offering Neighborhood Cleanup Kits for community members or organizations to borrow to lead their own cleanup events.
Each Kit Includes:
- 15 Trash Grabbers
- 15 Hi-Vis Vests
- Bags and Gloves
Plan a cleanup in your neighborhood, even if it's just your own household, or add one to your annual block party this summer! Get outside and pitch in to keep your neighborhood beautiful!

2024 Hmong International Freedom Festival
The Hmong International Freedom Festival is returning to Como Park June 29-30. You can find more information about the festivities on the Freedom Festival website.

- The Como Park Food Scraps drop-off site (1149 Beulah Ln) will be closed June 28-30. During this time site access will be blocked.

Midway Parkway Summer Gardening
Join the Midway Parkway Garden Club at the gardens on Midway Parkway to keep the community and gardens thriving. Everyone is invited!
They meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 5:00 pm. There are two locations:
- Gardens at Arona and Midway Parkway
- Gardens at Hamline and Midway Parkway.
New neighbors and renters encouraged to stop by and get to know your community and refresh yourself with the benefits of gardening!

Glass in Flight this Summer at Como Zoo
This Summer Como Zoo and Conservatory is featuring Alex Heveri's "Glass in Flight 2" exhibit, featuring enlarged steel and glass sculptures of butterflies, moths, dragonflies, beehives, humming birds, ands, and praying mantis.
The exhibit will be on display through Labor Day.

Advanced Notification of Wheelock-Grotto Area Reconstruction
What is happening?
Neighborhood street reconstruction and pedestrian improvements are planned within the area of East
Como Blvd, Arlington Ave, Dale St, and Maryland Ave for 2025 and 2026. The project will
improve street pavement, curb and gutter, street lighting, sidewalks, water mains and storm sewers, as
well as improve pedestrian safety by filling in missing sidewalk gaps. See Project Map for street segments
and phasing.
When is this happening?
-
Phase 1 (2025): Reconstruction is anticipated to begin in late May 2025, weather permitting. The project may continue into the 2026 construction season.

Phase 2 (2026): Reconstruction is anticipated to begin in 2026.

Mill and Overlay (2026): Two segments of roadway will be resurfaced (mill and overlay) in 2026 as part of Phase 2.
How is the project funded?
The project is funded by bonds and assessments to the abutting property owners. Estimated assessment rates are set before construction begins. Property owners will receive a separate notification with the estimated assessment rate and the time of a public hearing at City Council closer to the start of construction before Phase 1 and Phase 2, respectively.

Pop Rock Swing Dancing in Como

Hazy Rhythms is hosting Pop Rock Swing Dancing at the Como Streetcar Station this summer. You can see the schedule, what to expect, and RSVP (optional) here on their website.

Como Grow a Row
This growing season, Como Park Lutheran Church (CPLC) is teaming up again with the Como Community Seed Library and Como Park neighbors to fight food insecurity through the Como Grow a Row initiative. This initiative is a way for neighbors to dedicate a garden row to donate their produce to a local organization fighting food insecurity; Every Meal and Keystone Community Services both accept fresh produce.
How to Participate:
- Stop by the Como Grow a Row table in CPLC’s Narthex to sign up or Sign Up Here.
- Choose what produce you would like to grow and donate.
- Free seeds are available at the table in CPLC’s Narthex, at some little free seed library locations, or via the Seed Checkout from the CCSL collection for pick up or by mail.
- Track your progress and share your pictures via social media with the hashtag #ComoGrowARow.
- Visit the University of Minnesota site for food safety tips when donating produce; UMN Food Safety Tips.

St. Paul Parks & Rec Fee Assistance Program
The City of Saint Paul operates a special program that helps families pay for Parks & Recreation youth classes and activities. Fee Assistance can be requested by families who meet program requirements when registering for youth activities. To be eligible for the program, youth must live in Saint Paul, be 18 years old or younger, and qualify for free and reduced lunches.
Fee Assistance can be used toward most recreational sports or activities offered by Saint Paul Parks and Recreation. To view the online catalog of all available activities offered, click here.

Ramsey County Environmental Resources
New Environmental Service Center coming soon
Ramsey County’s Environmental Service Center (ESC) will open in Spring 2025! This new facility will make it easier for residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.
Located in Roseville (1700 Kent St), the year-round facility will have the following:
- Household hazardous waste (HHW) drop off.
- Electronics, food scraps and general recycling.
- Free product reuse room.
There will be no mobile household hazardous waste collection sites in 2025. Ramsey County’s household hazardous waste program will move to the Environmental Service Center in spring 2025. they are evaluating additional collection opportunities for 2026.

Volunteer for Urban Heat Island Study
Later this summer, Ramsey County will conduct a citizen science urban heat island data collection campaign in partnership with Hennepin County, with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.
On the day of the campaign, trained volunteers will attach a heat monitoring sensor to their vehicles, and drive a specific route. this will help identify urban heat islands. That information can help the county take action to reduce negative impacts of extreme heat.
Volunteers will receive a $25 gift card as compensation.

Before you throw away that item- whether it’s furniture, a toy, food, or something else- see if a neighbor wants it by posting on your local Buy Nothing group. The Buy Nothing project encourages residents to share and gift items to others in your community by joining local Buy Nothing Facebook groups. Keep in mind, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
