Sunnyvale PD Earns Second Accreditation

The Sunnyvale Police Department has earned its second official accreditation from the Texas Police Chiefs Association. Last week, department representatives accepted the recognition.

The accreditation process requires law enforcement agencies to prove their compliance with 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices, which support efficiency, effective service delivery, risk reduction and the protection of individual rights.

Pictured are (left to right) Police Services Coordinator Angie Webb, Interim Town Manager/Police Chief Bill Vegas, Chief Special Agent Will Johnson of BNSF Railway PD, and Interim Police Chief B.J. Brumit. This recognition illustrates the hard work each member of the SPD puts in every day to make our department great.

Sunnyvale Updates its Web and Email Addresses

The Town of Sunnyvale has updated its web address to www.SunnyvaleTX.gov. All email addresses now use the same address and the recipient names have been updated. For example: Rachel.Ramsey@townofsunnyvale.org is now rramsey@SunnyvaleTX.gov.

The .gov domain reduces the risk of phishing and impersonation, as only verified government entities can acquire it. Such domains also increase search visibility and are more recognizable by the public.

The old web address and email addresses still work, to allow stakeholders time to adjust to using the new addresses.

Saturday, April 18 | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It's time to get your spring cleaning into high gear! Get your bulky items and old documents ready for the Keep Sunnyvale Shining Trash Off on Saturday, April 18, at the SISD Raider Stadium parking lot.

You can bring household bulk waste, including scrap metal. Do NOT bring tires, concrete, chemicals, paint or anything containing refrigerant, gas or oil.

Bring up to four (4) boxes of documents for shredding. Each additional box will cost $10.

Most services are free for Sunnyvale residents and cost $25 for non-residents. Please bring a driver's license or a current water bill as proof of residency. Only credit and debit cards will be accepted. NO CASH.

For more information, including a map of how event traffic will be routed, visit the event web page.

Charter Amendment Election

Early Voting Begins April 21

Sunnyvale voters will consider a slate of proposed Town Charter amendments on May 2. Many of these updates would bring the Charter into compliance with State law updates, address any legal or administrative issues, and improve the effective application of the Charter to current conditions.

The proposed amendments include the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board and the requirement for a Library Board, which currently exists.

The proposed amendments also include term limits for the Mayor and Town Council members and would change the Mayor's term from two years to three years.

Early voting will be available at Sunnyvale Town Hall, 127 N. Collins Road as follows:

April 21 - 24 (Tues-Friday) 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

April 25 (Saturday) 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

April 26 (Sunday) noon - 6 p.m.

April 27 - April 28 (Mon - Tues) 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Election day voting is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., also at Sunnyvale Town Hall.

Spring into Safety with Rabies Awareness

Rabies is a deadly virus—but the good news is it’s 100% preventable with a simple vaccine. Keeping your pets up to date on their rabies shots protects not only them, but your family and the entire community.

Wildlife activity increases in the spring, increasing the risk of exposure. Now is the perfect time to make sure your furry friends are protected!

  • Vaccinate your pets
  • Keep dogs on a leash outdoors
  • Avoid contact with wild animals
  • Stay up to date on vaccinations

If you’re unsure whether your pet is current, reach out to your veterinarian to have their records checked for accurate information!

Spring into safety during Rabies Awareness Month

We Just Love Linda!

Linda is an eight-month-old female mixed-breed terrier puppy: Linda was found stray and never claimed. She knows some commands like “sit” and “down” and loves to play with her toys, especially to please her caretaker. She also gets along with other dogs and cats. While unsure about her true mix, the shelter believes she will be around 45 to 50 lbs. Although still puppy-like and in need of training, she would make a great addition to the family!

Please call (214-862-4525) for more information on Linda.

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
