KUUdos!
The Board and I are creating an occasional column to thank folks for all they do at AUUF and around the community. If you have suggestions, or have spied folks doing something great, please let us know. You can also write the person and their activity on a leaf on our Gratitude Board in the Social Room.
Democracy Protectors!!: Marty Freeman and Peggy Robinson are the leads at two or our early voting centers and they've recruited lots of other folks to help them: Heather Flynn, Michele Champion, Koala Vandruff, Don Antrobus, Erik and Robin Hill, and more! Thank you so much! (Remember to vote!)
Buildings and Grounds: Earl Becker recently headed the effort to get the windows in room 2 replaced--they look great! I spied Bruce Robertson smoothing out our lane and parking lot in preparation for the winter to come. Thank you and all the folks on B and G!
Welcome Table: Led by the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Team, AUUF hosted a dinner and games night for our trans and gender expansive neighbors and friends. The food and conversation were great. Thank you for providing a safe, welcoming place in these chaotic times.
Blessings, Rev. Lise

Mr. Whitekeys
The Anchorage Unitarian Universalist Fellowship had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Whitekeys at two of our Forums.
His first visit was on 17 May 2015. This recording is notable because it was George Bryson’s first time as our Forum Moderator. During George’s intro, he gives a more detailed bio of Mr. Whitekeys. You can find that podcast here -
His second visit was on 09 October 2022. You can find that podcast here -

Join the Greeter Team!
Being a Greeter on Sunday mornings is both fun and important. Our Fellowship strives to be a welcoming place and greeters are key to this mission. The Connections Team is looking for a core group of 10-15 people who can commit to one Sunday per month (or thereabouts). No experience is necessary, although we will be offering an optional training. This is a good opportunity for both new and long-term attendees to help out and meet others.
Come join us!
Contact Joan Frankevich: fireweed59@gci.net, 907-250-6056.

Aligning with the pillars: Half Portion plans for spring 2027
Written by Sara Hannon, Social Action Council Co-facilitator
As the leaves fall, I am reminded that this is the time of year that we usually hold nominations followed by voting for Half-Portion causes. This is a chance for all AUUF members to nominate worthy causes in our community and vote for the causes that we will support with half of our Sunday collection plates. As someone who corresponds with our Half-Portion recipients, I can tell you that our donations are impactful. Seeing the pictures that the non-profit organizations send and the stories that they share is my favorite part of my role.
While our calendar year efforts have been impactful, our Social Action Council co-facilitators with the support of the AUUF Board has decided to shift the nomination and voting efforts to the spring. This will allow us to align the causes with the pillars that the congregation selects during the Annual Business Meeting.
For now, I invite you to watch the leaves fall, enjoy the cool weather, contribute to Half Portion causes, and vote in the mid-term elections. In late January, we will share information about how you can nominate causes that you believe make our community a better place. We will hold voting in March and will encourage everyone to vote. If you would like to mark your calendars for next year, I have attached a Half-Portion schedule for spring of 2027.

Anti-Racism Read
Last meeting Nov. 3, 6-7:30 pm
And the Winner Is . . . Be A Revolution by Ijeoma Oluo (2024)
A bold guide to dismantling systemic oppression—including environmental justice, racism, and capitalism—in workplaces, schools, and communities. Oluo offers practical strategies for everyday people to create meaningful, lasting change.
Because this book has many chapters, we’ve decided on a partial read for now to match our Social Justice Pillar of Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change:
Tues., Nov. 3, 6-7:30 pm We’ll pick a section we’d all like to read together at an earlier meeting (Yes, we know this is voting day, but wouldn’t you like to spend some on that day with other progressively minded people? (-;)
If you’d like to join us, but have problems accessing the book, for whatever reason, please contact jenny.ann.poon@gmail.com.
If you’d like to join by zoom please contact RevLise@AnchorageUUF.org

Would you like to Help at the Family Emergency Cold Weather Shelter?
Interested in helping our unhoused neighbors? You can help at the Family Emergency Cold Weather Shelter! Opportunities to volunteer start October 13 and runs through April.
AUUF provides dinner, evening presence, and fire-watch volunteers two Tuesday evenings a month. You can help by providing food for dinner, or volunteering for a 3 or 4 hour shift (7-10, 10-2, 2-6, or 6-9). This is an easy and fulfilling way to build the beloved community: helping our neighbors and sharing time and getting to know other UU members and the families that stay at the shelter. . if you take the shifts between 10-2 or 2-6, it's a great time to watch movies, read a book, catch up on cards, pay your bills. The only limit is your activity has to be quiet. It is an insight to Anchorage and helps us put life in perspective. Volunteer for one shift or a series.
If you’re interested, Dennis has more information and a sign-up form at the table in the Social Room. Or contact him by email. We can provide training! A background check is required; contact Rev Lise for that.

OCTOBER HALF PORTION FOR SOCIAL ACTION:
Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness
How does ACEH contribute to Anchorage’s homelessness response?
The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness leads and aligns Anchorage’s community response to homelessness, bringing partners together to build an effective, data-driven, person-centered system. Through collaboration, advocacy, coordination and strategic action, ACEH works to make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring, improve public safety, expand access to housing, and achieve lasting, measurable community results. We streamline access to the Homelessness Prevention and Response System through Coordinated Entry assessments, which lead to a vulnerability-based priority list for precious housing resources. We are working to improve services and systems serving youth through a youth-led action board. We are developing a prevention model to test whether timely, targeted resources can stop homelessness before it ever begins. And we are part of a coordinated street outreach effort to reach people where they are.
You can contribute in person at our Sunday services or online by visiting anchorageuuf.org click on Donate/ Pay on the home page. Enter your donation under “Half-Portion for Social Action."
