Dear Residents,

Welcome back to our seasonal residents! We’re thrilled to see the Village of Golf coming alive again with your return and look forward to a vibrant season together.

A quick safety reminder: with the recent clock change, it now gets darker earlier in the evening. For those out walking pets or enjoying outdoor exercise, please wear easily visible or reflective clothing to ensure safety and visibility.

On another seasonal note, with the holiday season approaching, we anticipate a significant increase in package deliveries to the community. We kindly remind everyone to properly recycle all cardboard boxes, packing materials, and other recyclables. When disposing of boxes, please break them down flat to maximize space in the recycling bins and avoid overflow. Additionally, materials like bubble wrap, Styrofoam, and plastic bags should be disposed of in designated waste areas if they are not recyclable, as they can disrupt the recycling process.

Finally, I’m pleased to announce that the new Resident Directory is now available. This directory has been distributed to all mailboxes, providing updated information on Village services, contact details, and community resources. It’s a great resource to help everyone, new and returning, stay informed and connected.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Here’s to another wonderful season in the Village of Golf!

Village Makes Changes to Ensure Smooth Operations

In a recent decision, the Village Council voted to ask voters to amend the Village charter, giving the option of allowing government operations to continue with a minimum of three council members instead of the current five. This change addresses growing concerns about the impact of Florida's new, stricter financial disclosure requirements, which many believe are deterring potential candidates from serving on commissions and councils.

The amendment aims to maintain stability within the council, as villages and towns across the state report difficulty in filling elected government positions. Village of Golf officials expressed concern that the detailed financial disclosure rules, intended to enhance transparency, may be having the unintended consequence of dissuading civic involvement.

By having the option to reduce the council quorum to three members, in the event we cannot find five, the Village hopes to ensure that government functions can continue without interruption, even if fewer residents are willing to serve.

This charter amendment will be voted on by Village residents in the March 11, 2025 municipal election. The rule requiring the more detailed full financial disclosure form is on hold, pending the outcome of litigation or a change in the legislation in coming months.

New Moves to Ban Marijuana Sales Regardless of Amendment 3 Vote

Proactive steps are being taken to ban the sale of marijuana within Village limits, regardless of the outcome of Amendment 3 in today's election.

The amendment, if it passes today, would legalize recreational marijuana use statewide, but Village leaders have chosen to enforce their own local restrictions. The council voted unanimously to pass the ordinance.

Officials emphasized that the decision is in line with resident values and allows the village to exercise local control over potential changes in state marijuana laws.

Construction Season Extended to Pre-Thanksgiving Deadline

The Village has announced an extension of its annual construction season, now set to end the Friday before Thanksgiving.

This extension allows for ongoing projects to be completed before the holiday season. Construction work is permitted Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until November 22nd.

The extension was granted as a result of lost work days due to poor weather.

We are excited to share our next edition of campaign "SERVICE PROVIDED - PAR EXCELLENCE," introducing the men and women who work for our Village.

Q: How long have you worked in the Village of Golf?

  • I've been here since September, 2001

Q: Can you briefly describe the work you do for the Village?

  • I am responsible for maintaining the infrastructure of the system, including water and sewer lines.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

  • I'm a people-person, and I always enjoy not only the people I work with, but the Village residents I work for as well.

Q: What can be the most challenging thing about your job?

  • I'd have to say it's the after-hours emergency calls, since many of the emergencies are often caused by bad weather, so we're out in the weather working as fast as we can to restore or repair the system.

Q: What is something in your personal life you are most proud of?

  • Of course, it would be be wife, kids, and grand kids.

Q: Do you have a message for Village residents?

  • After over two decades of working here, I think of the residents as more of an extended family. I've known this Village for nearly a quarter century, and I still enjoy serving the people here.

Rich Jones is one of the most pleasant people I have the pleasure of working with. He has been an invaluable member of the utilities team for more than two decades. You can always find Rich with a smile on his face and a kind word for whoever is around. He is an absolute gem!
