The holiday season is one of the most joyful times of the year, but one mistake on the road can turn joy into sorrow. The City of Mississauga continues to see road collisions due to impaired driving, and it gets worse during the holidays. The City, in partnership with Peel Regional Police, is reminding all drivers visiting friends and family or running errands, to do so responsibly.

Don't Drink & Drive

In previous years, the City’s budget discussions took place in late fall. The City’s proposed 2026 Budget will be released on January 6, 2026 and Budget Committee meetings begin January 12, 2026. This new timeline ensures the total impact of the Region of Peel’s budget, including the cost of policing services, is considered during the City’s 2026 Budget discussions.

Starting January 1, 2026, Ontario will complete its transition to extended producer responsibility (EPR) where producers—those that supply packaging and paper materials—will be fully responsible for funding and managing the program. This new system will be managed by @circmaterials, the administrator of the common collection system and a not-for profit organization that is committed to building efficient and effective recycling systems.

Any recycling collection and bin issues should be directed to GFL, the new collection contractor for recycling in Peel. Residents can reach out via email at peelrecycling@gflenv.com or call 1-877-268-4351.

For general questions about Ontario’s new recycling system, residents can contact Circular Materials at customerservice@circularmaterials.ca or call 1-877-667-2626.

A windrow is a pile of snow that gets pushed onto a driveway by a plow as it clears the street. Residents with single, shared and double driveways will get at least a three-metre space cleared in their driveway windrow. No application or registration is required. The City will not clear windrows for condominiums, commercial properties and homes on private roads.

Report Sod Damage

The City replaces sod if required that is damage by the snow plow, from May to June and September to October. Sod that’s brown due to salt from winter maintenance is not replaced by the City. To report damaged locations, call 311 call centre or report online.
