Chamber Insights with Jill

If you noticed we didn’t send a newsletter last week, it’s because last week was a big one for the Chamber — our Annual Banquet – Neon Nights! I want to personally thank everyone who joined us for an evening of celebration, connection, and community pride.

We honored businesses and leaders who are truly making a difference in Paulding County:

  • Golden Shovel Awards – Hybrid Performance, Okuley’s Pharmacy, Paulding County Land Bank, and Grant’s Catering & Wedding Venue
  • Business Leader of the Year – Kieu & Travis Okuley
  • Young Professional of the Year – Lindsey Manz
  • Legacy Awards – Mr. Samuel Hatcher & Judge Tiffany Reighter-Beckman
  • Business Milestones – from 1 year all the way to 155 years

Thanks to your generosity, our Dessert Dash raised nearly $2,000 for scholarships, and the Maker’s Mix Basket Raffle will support our Leadership in Action service project. None of this would have been possible without our Board of Directors, volunteers, sponsors, artisans, and bakers who gave their time, talent, and energy to make the night shine.

If you weren’t able to attend, we’ve shared banquet photos on our Facebook page, and you’ll find a highlight video below.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been wrapping up post-banquet details and preparing for this week’s Board of Directors meeting. Up next, my focus turns to three big things on the horizon:

  • The 2026 Membership Drive
  • Shop the Village holiday event in November
  • The Shades of Ireland Information Meeting on November 3 at 6 PM at the Chamber Office (101 E. Perry St., Paulding)

Finally, I want to give a quick shout-out to Community Revitalizing Paulding (CoRP) for their wonderful Cemetery Walk this past weekend. The weather was perfect, and it’s always inspiring to see local groups creating meaningful events for our community.

Thank you again for your support of the Chamber and for helping us celebrate Paulding County in such a special way.

Warmly,

Jill Strahley

FEATURED BUSINESSES OF THE WEEK

Tucked away on West Wayne Street in Paulding, the Bittersweet Inn offers more than just a place to stay – it’s a peaceful retreat with local charm. Originally part of a 14-acre farmhouse property, the Inn has been thoughtfully renovated into a five-room lodging option that balances modern amenities with a warm, homelike atmosphere.

Guests enjoy comforts such as private bathrooms, Roku TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and coffee makers, with some rooms even offering balconies or patios. Shared lounge spaces and a quiet residential setting add to the sense of relaxation.

Visitors consistently praise the Inn’s cleanliness, comfort, and tranquil location, describing it as a “home away from home.” Its proximity to downtown Paulding attractions like Herb Monroe Community Park and the John Paulding Museum makes it convenient for both leisure and business travelers.

With an “Excellent” 8.8 rating on Booking.com, Bittersweet Inn has quickly become a favorite choice for guests seeking comfort and community spirit in the heart of Paulding County. Whether you’re hosting out-of-town visitors or planning a local getaway, Bittersweet Inn is a stay worth recommending.

Child Care Cred Program to Support Families and Employers

New Program Helps Families with Child Care Costs

Governor Mike DeWine recently announced the launch of the Child Care Cred Program, a $10 million initiative to make child care more affordable for Ohio’s working families while helping businesses retain employees.

  • Families must live in Ohio.
  • Employers must be Ohio-based.
  • Employers and employees apply together through the Ohio Department of Children and Youth.
  • Approved families can use funds with a licensed provider or their current child care provider.
  • Applications are due May 1, 2026.

Funding is available through June 30, 2026.

Ohio Traffic Safety Office

New RoadReady Ohio App Helps Practicing Drivers

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Public Safety have announced the launch of RoadReady Ohio, a free mobile app designed to help new drivers safely log their required practice hours.

The app allows teens with a learner’s permit (and their parents/guardians) to:

  • Track 50 supervised driving hours needed before the license test.
  • Receive real-time feedback on braking, acceleration, turning, and speed.
  • Generate the official driving log to submit to the Ohio BMV once hours are complete.

Ohio is the first state to add telematics features, which analyze driving actions and provide personalized tips for improvement. Officials hope this technology will help reduce crashes by turning practice drives into valuable learning experiences.

Beginning September 30, 2025, a new Ohio law also requires drivers ages 18–20 to obtain a learner’s permit and complete the same practice hours as younger drivers before testing for a license.

The app is available now for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
