Covington is Now Home to

Louisiana's Largest Songwriter Festival

The OZONE Music Foundation is a vision sparked by co-founder Greg Barnhill, an Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated songwriter, and a group of passionate friends. Now in its eighth year, the foundation is a cornerstone of music education and industry development in Louisiana.

From humble beginnings to hosting Louisiana’s largest original music only festival … right here in Covington ... the festival has stayed true to its roots

fostering talent, celebrating creativity and giving back.

The largest Singer Songwriter Festival in the state of Louisiana, featuring more than 150 local, regional and nationally known musicians from over 14 states, the OZONE Songwriter Festival takes place in downtown Covington at the Trailhead and at music venue partner stages — the Columbia Street Tap Room, Cured on Columbia, Black Flower Records & Apparel (Sat. only), H.J. Smith's Son's front porch, The Ox & The Bee, Oliver & Cecile Lodging + Lounge, Encore Bar & Grill and The Green Room.

Greg Barnhill, a Slidell native now thriving in Nashville, brings his love for his home state to every project ... with hits like “Walkaway Joe” (recorded by Tricia Yearwood and Don Henley), Gary Allan’s “It Ain’t The Whisky”, and The Backstreet Boys “Christmas in New York”, Greg’s journey inspires us—and the next generation of artists the foundation supports

Jack-n-Nat's

(Service Station at Red-Bean-About)

Many have noticed the changes happening at the old Jack-n-Nat's service station at the corner of 21st Ave. and Jefferson. This familiar location is getting a makeover and will soon become Brother's Food Mart (a convenience store chain in New Orleans).

Many have praised Brother's for their fried chicken and are pleased that the long-abandoned building is being replaced. Others have expressed dislike for the looks of the building and the use:

1) The site is outside of the Historic District. The City has no jurisdiction over the aesthetics of the building.

2) The use of the property is dictated by zoning. The owners are putting the site back in commerce in compliance with the zoning. Should the city try to prevent the owners from the "right of enjoyment" of their property, we would be in violation of their constitutional rights under the 5th and 14th amendments. The Judiciary looks harshly upon such actions … usually implementing fines on the City and the owner still gets to build their building.

Ingress and Egress

Ingress and egress is the jurisdiction of LA DOTD as 21st Ave. is also LA State Hwy. 21 and US Business Hwy. 190. Egress into the red bean-about is eliminated. Ingress southbound on Jefferson is right turn-in only. Ingress and egress will be allowed on 21st Ave. Again, the design is approved by DOTD, not the City.
