CR 512 Corridor Study - Final Plan

County Road 512 is a vital link which connects the western portions of Indian River County with the two Strategic Intermodal System nodes within the County (I-95 and SR-60 west of I-95). Moreover, as Fellsmere seeks to grow, planning for the future of CR 512 is of great importance.

At the MPO's request, FDOT recently prepared a corridor study for CR 512. The study included multiple rounds of public outreach, engagement with stakeholders, and provides multiple options for the community to make context sensitive decisions for the Fellsmere community and beyond. The study divided the CR 512 corridor into three distinct areas (small city, suburban, and rural) and recommended multiple options for improving CR 512 within each area (see example below).

This study is well researched and a joy to read. (Yes we are government nerds at the MPO!) We implore you to take a read.

Bike Ped Master Plan Update - Adopted

In 2023, the Indian River County Metropolitan Planning Organization commenced an update to its Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. At the December 12th MPO Board meeting, the MPO unanimously adopted the updated Bike-Ped Master Plan. The Master Plan identifies strategic corridors for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, organizes projects by proposed funding sources, and makes suggestions to improve multimodal experiences across the community.

This report is the end product of the better part of a year's work, and it has been guided by public input, technical expertise, and most importantly stakeholder champions.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time and efforts to this major update!

Senior Resource Association Wins Statewide Safety Award for Para-Transit Operations

Last September, the Senior Resource Association, (SRA) the County's public transportation operator was named the best paratransit system for safety operations in 2023 by the Florida Public Transportation Association. The award is the result of reducing the levels of road calls by 50%. and a 100% drop with chargeable accidents. The MPO is delighted to see SRA's hard work and commitment to safety highlighted at the state level.
