MARCH 2022 EDITION
Downtown Hawkinsville is a Main Street program that works with Hawkinsville's Downtown Development Authority, government officials, and downtown businesses to focus on restoring and growing a healthy, viable downtown commercial district. Our e-news called, The Downtowner, will keep you updated on all the great things happening in Downtown Hawkinsville, including: projects, downtown events, community resources, and more!
SunMark Community Bank, originally named Pulaski Banking Company, opened its doors in 1949 and was located in downtown Hawkinsville at 114 Commerce Street. The Pulaski Banking Company was founded by R.D. Buchan, a local businessman, and farmer, who saw a need for another bank in Hawkinsville, Georgia.

The Pulaski Banking Company began to grow in 1960 with the addition of its drive-thru banking window, which was the first in the area. This made banking at the Pulaski Banking Company more convenient than other banks at the time.

In 1977, the bank moved to a more modern location at 140 Commerce Street in Downtown Hawkinsville. Two decades later, the bank reinforced its focus on the community by changing its name to SunMark Community Bank.

In 1995, SunMark set its course on an expansion that began in Warner Robins, Georgia. SunMark has continued to expand with a mortgage department in Warner Robins and branches in Bonaire, Fort Valley, Perry, and Byron.

Today, SunMark Community Bank continues to be a pillar in the Hawkinsville community. Tonya Boyd, Hawkinsville Branch Manager, says that "bank employees are involved in activities for the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Hawkinsville's Main Street program, and Rotary Club. Many employees even attend ribbon cuttings to support local businesses."

A recent project the SunMark team has worked on with Downtown Hawkinsville's Main Street program is the Easter Egg Scavenger that will take place April 4th- April 8th. Boyd says "partnerships like the scavenger hunt are a great way to bring people downtown and get involved in our community efforts to redevelop the downtown area." When asked what she hopes to see in our downtown Hawkinsville in the next 5 to 10 years, Boyd says "I want to see more businesses and more things to do after 5:00 PM. "

As you can see, SunMark Community Bank is a great cheerleader for our community and downtown redevelopment efforts. Thanks SunMark Community Bank for all you do!
