Local Wildfire Updates
Santa Clara County Fire Department (SCCFD) and Cal Fire continue to closely monitor the fires burning in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties known as the CZU Lightning Complex, as well as fires burning in eastern Santa Clara County, known as the SCU Lightning Complex. SCCFD has staffed several additional fire engines and will continue to proactively staff for the near future. To see a damage assessment map, click the following link: SCCFD Damage Assessment

The CZU Lightning Complex is a dynamic incident; currently, the SCCFD has lifted the evacuation order for Santa Clara County. All residents should remain aware, informed, and ready to evacuate. Residents should register for emergency alerts at alertscc.com, visit sccfd.org/rsg for wildfire preparation information, and follow @calfireSCU and @CAL_FIRE.

COMMUNITY UPDATES
Reach Code Questions
Building Electrification and enhanced EV Infrastructure ordinance often referred to as the Reach Codes will be on the Council agenda on September 22.

How will the Reach Codes affect me?
The proposed Reach Code Ordinance currently under consideration in Los Altos will apply to newly constructed buildings for residential, commercial and mixed-use purposes. If you are planning a remodel, tenant improvement or appliance/equipment replacement, the Reach Codes will not affect your project.

The City has a webpage for the Reach Codes and to find more frequently asked questions and answers, as well as more information about the Reach Codes, please visit the Reach Codes Webpage
National Night Out
National Night Out (NNO) in Los Altos has been canceled this year. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Los Altos Police Department, involves over 16,124 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. Last year, approximately one million people participated in National Night Out, supported in part by the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

A few months ago, the date was pushed out to October 6 and Administration has decided to cancel the Los Altos NNO this year. NNO is a long-running, nationwide event that occurs on the first Tuesday in August annually.
Los Altos Pest Management
The City of Los Altos has updated the City’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Policy! Restriction on the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides in City parks has now been added to the IPM. With the uncertainty of synthetic pesticide effects on humans, pets and the environment, the City of Los Altos has now taken a step to addressed this. Other updates to the policy include:
  • Purpose section added
  • Identification of City IPM Manager that oversees pesticide certification with the County and IPM record keeping.
  • Added section addressing collaboration with other agencies

September is Emergency Preparedness Month - Make a Plan Today
Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to know which types of disasters could affect your area. Know how you’ll contact one another and reconnect if separated. Establish a family meeting place that’s familiar and easy to find.

  1. Put a plan together by discussing several important questions (found here) with your family, friends or household to start your emergency plan.
  2. Consider specific needs in your household. As you prepare your plan tailor your plans and supplies to your specific daily living needs and responsibilities. Discuss your needs and responsibilities and how people in the network can assist each other with communication, care of children, business, pets or specific needs like operating medical equipment.
  3. Fill out a Family Emergency Plan. Download and fill out a family emergency plan or use it as a guide to create your own: Emergency Plan for Parents (PDF)
  4. Practice your plan with your family/household
