History Repeats... or Does It?

Hazel turns three years old today. She’s our fun-loving, friendly (and first family) dog who greets each day as though something wonderful might happen at any moment.

Well, tonight, Gavin and I will get on the road to attend a concert together. Between celebrating Hazel and sharing that drive with my son, I’m grateful for the ordinary moments that invite us to slow down and be present… which has been on my heart lately.

At my spiritual director’s suggestion in August, I began a two-week spiritual retreat and staycation beginning on Labor Day. I stepped away from my usual responsibilities, though I came to worship to be present as new partners joined St. Luke’s (on the 13th) and our kindergartners and fourth graders received Bibles (on the 20th). Those are always beautiful, special moments in worship. The retreat also gave me time to listen, rest, and remember that walking with God is a lifelong journey, sustained by God’s Spirit and grace.

This Sunday, we close our History Class worship series with Micah 6:1–8 and a question: “History Repeats… or Does It?” Using Ashley Boggin’s book, Wesleyan Vile-tality, we’ve looked at the stories of God’s people and the history of our Wesleyan heritage and United Methodist Church. We’ve seen courage and compassion...

St. Luke's In Review

Supporting Students Through Creativity

Thank you to all the volunteers who came to help the Maxey Elementary Robotics Team build LEGO models last weekend for their upcoming competition!

The group had a fun morning building something awesome together with Go Full STEAM Robotics. We love seeing St. Lukers use their unique gifts and special interests to support students in developing new skills. Join us in wishing this team all the best in their competition!

A Special Milestone in Faith

In worship this week, we celebrated a special milestone in the faith journeys of our kindergarteners and 4th graders as they received their very own Bibles!

Our kindergarteners received story Bibles to help them discover God’s Word as they learn to read, while our 4th graders received study Bibles to encourage them to explore and deepen their understanding of Scripture.

As a church family, we promised to walk alongside these children as they grow in faith, ask questions, and discover their place in God’s big story. We pray these Bibles will be a source of joy, curiosity, and connection with God for years to come!

The Countdown to Sounds of the Season Begins

Our Community Choir kicked off rehearsals for Sounds of the Season 2026 with a packed house, a holiday potluck, and plenty of festive music!

After gathering for fellowship over lunch on Sunday, the choir jumped right in and started bringing this year’s music to life. Then, on Monday night, the choir came together for its first full rehearsal, and we can tell already that this concert is shaping up to be something very special.

This incredible wall of sound is getting ready to fill St. Luke’s with the joy of the season, and you won't want to miss it. Tickets go on sale soon, so stay tuned!

From Construction Site to New Home

Last Saturday was a big day of teamwork with West Orange Habitat for Humanity, thank you to everyone from St. Luke’s who came out to lend a hand!

Our volunteers spent the day working together to put the finishing touches on seven new houses, helping make sure each one is ready for the families who will call them home.

Our next Habitat volunteer opportunity is on November 14, where we’ll help set up for their Rock the House fundraiser. Learn more and sign up at st.lukes.org/habitat!
