Hello families,
"Many hands make light work" is a proverb I quote quite a bit with children! 'Teamwork makes the dream work' or 'The more we get together...' for little ones also does the job. Kids naturally want to jump in and help, to be seen as useful and capable. They even get to lead others and practice their faith with their family and church family. That is one of the best things that happens at our all ages Saints & Service Sandwich Making day.
Here are a few examples of the Holy Spirit doing Her thing:
When Hank Harris slyly says "I don't know what to do", a 2nd and 3rd grader step right up with "Okay, so you take the bread ... and make sure you put two pieces of meat on it...". You can see the pride on their faces as they take charge.
The 'Youth Table' now come in as if they own the event ( which they may) and start setting up without a moment's hesitation. Then they get to work - together - with laughter and razzing each other's sandwich making abilities, but they are going to win by making the most sandwiches!
And then there are the deal-makers, when supplies get low, these kids start scrounging for supplies from other tables with trades of cheese for meat in order to finish their orders.
And lastly, the most beautiful sight is seeing tables of saints from 7 to 90 working together, learning each others' names, laughing and talking with one another as they serve - as they practice being the hands and feet of God.
