10 Years of Providing a Home for Transplant Families

"The road to and through transplant is arduous. For those of us who are also far from our homes, our friends, our family, the routines of our former lives, there is that additional burden. There are many whose economic circumstances limit their choices. For them, Transplant House is an invaluable asset." - Jill, caregiver

10 years ago Transplant House opened our apartments to our first guests – Ashley and Miriam from Arizona, who came to Cleveland for a 4-organ transplant. During that first year, we had 7 apartments and one full-time staff member, but the need for a place like Transplant House was apparent from the very first day.

In the years since, we've expanded to 25 apartments in two buildings, grown our staff to better serve the many needs of our guests, and added a third building dedicated to community gathering spaces and programming. The most meaningful number of all, however, is 2,126 – the number of families who have called this place home since 2014.

We are excited to mark this milestone throughout the year with those who made it happen: you! To our friends, guests, volunteers, and supporters, thank you for making these 10 years possible. We look forward to sharing where we've been and where we're going with you throughout 2024.

Making this House a Home

Thank you to Sustainable Community Associates for for delivering wish list items given by residents of their Fairmount Creamery Apartments. Each year, they pick five charities to support and put up a Giving Tree. This year they chose Transplant House! Wish List items are essential to ensuring our apartments are welcoming, well-stocked, and ready to serve as a home-away-from-home for transplant families.

Happenings around the House

A Year of Bell Ringings!

We can’t think of a better way to start off the new year than to revisit the bell ringings that happened at Transplant House in 2023. Each of these moments are special ones – celebrations of a major milestone on a journey that is full of ups, downs, and uncertainty. And while their journeys do not end with transplant, bell ringings are significant for marking the start of the next step: their return home and the beginning of their renewed chance at life. We are so grateful to share in these moments and are awed by the courage, resilience, and gratitude all of our guest families show in the face of such challenging circumstances.
