MoDOT recruiting for winter maintenance positions

Flexible hours, salary differentials available for some positions

MoDOT is looking to fill open full-time maintenance positions and hire seasonal emergency maintenance equipment operators to supplement the department’s winter weather response efforts in the upcoming months.

Applicants with prior experience looking for temporary employment opportunities are encouraged to apply for open "Emergency Maintenance Equipment Operator" positions through MOCareers. MoDOT is offering greater flexibility for seasonal emergency and volunteer help this season in the form of two shift options, an eight-hour shift and/or a 12-hour shift. There are also full-time maintenance positions available with 12-hour shifts for those looking for a permanent career with MoDOT.

MoDOT currently employs 2,400 maintenance employees across the state to maintain more than 33,000 miles of state routes, but more help is needed, especially in the winter months to treat and plow ahead of, during and after winter weather events.

Minimum starting salary for seasonal winter hires is $19.91 per hour, depending on level of experience, with an additional $3 or $6 per hour based on area of operation. Salaries for full-time maintenance worker positions vary based on experience.

Emergency operator applicants need to be at least 18 years old and successfully complete a criminal background check (a misdemeanor or felony conviction is not an automatic restriction to employment). Applicants must already possess a CDL.

Applicants for full-time Maintenance positions must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED/HiSET, possess a valid driver's license and have a passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam. Applicants must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B) and interstate status within 60 days of being hired into a position. Hired applicants must also successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screening, work simulation and physical.

MissouriBUYS vendors asked to register in new purchase systems

Suppliers who do business with MoDOT must register full business name, address and tax identification number in both MissouriBUYS, WebProcure by Proactis, and MissouriBUYS, powered by MOVERS before they go live July 2026. Suppliers can submit bid responses once registered in MOVERS but can't be awarded agreements or purchase orders until fully approved as "Spend Authorized". Questions? Contact MOVERS or MissouriBUYS.

Watch out for deer along roadways as temperatures cool down

MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol want to remind drivers that more deer will be on the move during October and November. Deer are most active at dawn and dusk, and do unpredictable things such as stopping in the middle of the road when crossing. In 2024, MSHP reported 2,952 crashes with deer, causing four deaths and 420 injuries. To learn more about safe tips for avoiding collisions with deer, visit MoDOT's website.
