National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is Oct 26-30

WHE to host a series of "Life Without Lead" events

WHE and its partners are excited to announce several upcoming events next week to celebrate National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week! This year's theme, "Keep Kids Safe from Lead," focuses on three key messages:

  • Get the Facts: Learn about lead hazards in your environment.
  • Get Your Child Tested: Ensure early detection through a blood lead test.
  • Get Your Home Tested: Identify and address potential lead sources.

These topics and more will be explored next week!

Join us for the following events:

  • Community Resource Fair - Tuesday, October 27th from 5:30 - 7 pm at the Neenie Campbell Gym at Founders’ Hall in McKeesport

Join us to connect with community resources, learn how to keep your family safe from lead exposure, and even have household items tested for lead by an XRF machine. Childcare and refreshments will be provided. Giveaways include green cleaning kits and water pitchers. To learn more and register, click here. • Tour of the Pittsburgh Water Treatment Plant - Wednesday, October 28th from 2 - 3 pm

  • Virtual Life Without Lead Summit - Thursday, October 29th from 9 am - 12 pm (EST)

This virtual event is your chance to learn, connect, and take action for a lead-safe future in Allegheny County. Hear from inspiring speakers, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and discover innovative solutions to eliminate lead from our lives and prevent childhood lead poisoning. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Allwood, PhD and MPH, Branch Chief for the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Surveillance Branch, National Center for Environmental Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To register for this free event, click here.

  • Community Conversation - Thursday, October 29th from 5 - 7 pm, CCAC Homewood-Brushton Campus

Join us for an engaging panel discussion as community leaders, experts, and changemakers share their insights on how we can work together to create safer, healthier, stronger communities by getting the lead out. To register, click here.

This is your chance to be part of the solution and work toward a future without lead. Together, we can make our homes, schools, and neighborhoods safer for all!
