Faith with Eagle’s Wings
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.” –Isaiah 40:31
As long as I can remember, my favorite Bible verse has been this scripture about eagle’s wings. It has given me hope in challenging times, strength when I felt so weak, and eagles seem to pop up everywhere in my life! From being in a stained-glass window at the church I attended faithfully in college to the eagle emblem on DG’s car (an Eagle Talon) when we began dating. I was amazed when I moved into my new office in the Family Resource Center (FRC) building when I walked around the corner from my new office, this verse with a beautiful mountain scene with an eagle soaring is painted in a mural right outside of my office door!
I have been suffering with a very painful hip/knee condition that I was born with and even as I write this, I am recovering at home from knee replacement surgery. I realize now that it has been a lifelong struggle for me to walk. I tried to hide it for so long, but once the pain became unbearable, I knew that my time of ignoring, hiding, compensating, or waiting was over. I desperately needed help and for us stubborn ones, that realization is difficult.
Humbling.
Soul forming.
Physical therapy has been just that: a soul forming endeavor for me. I realized on my first appointment following surgery that I could not lift my legs on my own. Neither leg muscles would move, and it was terrifying. I had to remind myself that my body had adjusted, even as a little toddler, to be able to walk and that now I was relearning and rewriting.
I remember just praying this verse during those most painful days before surgery. This verse has come to my mind so many times over the past few weeks as I have been struggling to learn how to walk on my new knee. It has been a reminder to me that God is with me. God will give me strength and that I am not alone! When I am at my weakest, if I ‘wait’ or rely in God, Grace rushes in!!!
As I pray for each of you and your families, I pray that you would know that God is there to give you strength. You were never meant to walk alone –God is with you. I pray that this will give you strength and peace as it is given to me. May you Fly!!!
