Spring NOTES 2023

President – Jason Hausback

Greetings and MTNA National Conference Wrap-Up

Greetings to all of you – I hope you are having a great semester of teaching and are looking forward to an engaging, restful, and relaxing summer!  I’m saying hi as I begin my term as President of MMTA, after 8 years of being Vice President and scheduling the auditions/conference.  I recently had the chance to attend my first ever MTNA National Conference in Reno at the end of March, and I was delighted to represent the state of Missouri as President.  Besides getting to meet many new teachers from all across the country, I was delighted to get to see no few than five Missouri students compete in the national competitions!  In my time as a state official, I have never seen so many students from our state advance, and we should all be very proud of them for how they represented Missouri:

MTNA Junior Piano Competition

Brayden Miao – Hye-Jung Hong/Wei-Han Su, teachers

Finalist

MTNA Senior Brass Competition

Jordan Pavelka – Nicholas Kenney, teacher

Third Place

MTNA Young Artist Brass Competition

Andrew Robertson – Jason Hausback, teacher

Winner

MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition

Jiyeon Lee – Hye-Jung Hong, teacher

Finalist

MTNA Young Artist String Competition

In addition to having several Missouri MTA members present at the conference, our very own President-Elect, Dr. Chris Madden presented a session entitled “Top Ten Tips For Getting Published” and hosted a book signing for two recent publications entitled “Technique Through Repertoire”, coauthored with Dr. Jani Ann Parsons.  Congratulations to everybody that competed/presented at this year’s conference.  If you have never attended yourself, I would highly recommend doing so in the future!

Sincerely,

Jason Hausback
