Welcome Summer 2021!
June has come and gone, and all across the US, tennis players are out in record numbers. During the worst of COVID-related restrictions, tennis was considered one of the safest sports. It allowed for minimal contact and provided both much-needed physical and mental workouts. As a result, people of all ages took up or returned to the game that lasts a lifetime, the sport that keeps on giving as it can be played among families, friends, and strangers indoors or outside, on public or private courts, on clay, grass, Har Tru, or hard surfaces.
Coming back to the game hasn’t been easy for everyone. Some players are reluctant to gather inside. Others want to remain within their trusted bubbles. Throughout New England, Vermont stood alone as the only state to return to competitive tennis conservatively – we are just now forming USTA leagues and returning to tournament or club-based match-play. USTA Vermont is committed to keeping you aware of opportunities, challenges, successes, and transitions among both our organization and the tennis community at large. Join us on the court, through our USTA Vermont website, or in conversation about what works for you.
Here’s to happier tennis and a happier summer in 2021!

USTA Leagues are back!

Last year, one million New Englanders hit the courts - a 27% increase from 2019 to 2020! USTA New England is running an innovative marketing campaign that highlights PLAYERS, not programs, to honor those new players and all the die-hard hitters. The ads will be featured on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook social media, billboards, digital, and print platforms. You can view the ad format and learn more about regional players by clicking here.
By sharing photos of yourself in all walks of your family, work, social, and tennis life and ending with the phrase, “I am a tennis player,” USTA NE will help us highlight the range of people throughout our state whose passion and love for the game keep Vermont tennis strong!

Bennington Aces NJTL
The USTA supports many programs that target youth growth and development through the promotion of tennis, often focusing on nurturing the talent and skill of competitive players. But research also indicates that tennis can be life-changing for young boys and girls in other ways. In November of 2019, the USTA Vermont newsletter highlighted a unique youth program in Vermont, The Bennington Aces. Bennington Tennis Center is home to The Bennington Aces, Vermont’s only NJTL (National Junior Tennis and Learning) Chapter. Pros Seth Gabriel and Dan Rowe lead after-school, weekend, and summer camp tennis instruction. Executive director Sandy Foster brings her educational training and experience to provide interactive instruction in nutrition, academics (including STEM), and enrichment. To date, over three hundred 3rd through 5th graders from five area schools have enrolled. Visit their website to learn more about this program or to donate: benningtonaces.org.
