1 MORE WEEK!!!
Look a little closer, do you like what you see?
It's the Kings of the Jungle at CYC!
| |
|
Another great weekend in the books. I had a great time being a spotter at the Airport Fundraiser. I might have to give Mecum Auto Auctions a call to see if they need spotters for the car auction this weekend.
If you're around on Fridays at 5, we have a new tradition of firing the signal cannon at CYC. This is a time-honored tradition at many yacht clubs around the country that signifies the start of the weekend.
Boat sales continue to be strong. NEW TRADES every week, and the good ones don't last long.
As the Commodore's Lounge becomes increasingly popular, we are learning how to manage the space every weekend. Last weekend, we launched a small appetizer menu along with different drink specials.
I would like to thank all of you who have donated to the fireworks fund. Without your support, there would be no show! We still have a ways to go, and we want to make it easy on you to contribute…if you would like to charge your donation to your account, call Leta at 918-782-3292.
Preparations are well under way for the Welcome To The Jungle Party on June 15th! This is the big poolside summer party of the year! Come in your best jungle attire, whether that is your safari gear, animal print clothing or Tarzan outfit, it’s up to your interpretation! I know it is going to be a great time!
I will finish up by asking if you're planning on dining with us on the 4th of July to get your reservation in NOW, the reservation sheet for Cherokee is in the club section.. We can plan better if we have a head count.
Hope to see you soon,
Tom

Hello Grand Lakers!
Tonight the 2024 NBA Finals Tips off tonight at 7:30. Come out for Pasta Night in the Dining Room with Austin mixing up your favorite pasta, then head up to Hooker’s for Game 1 of the Finals.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new Commodore’s Lounge, come out tonight and check it out. It has had rave reviews since we opened it up. For those that have been, we updated the appetizer menu there to include: Spicy Shrimp – hand-breaded and lightly fried colossal shrimp tossed in chef-made Bang Bang sauce over a cucumber and onion salad, Yacht Bread – Focaccia bread topped with garlic butter and three cheese blend; served with marinara and pesto aioli in addition to the Charcuterie Board we opened with. We also have a wonderful craft cocktail menu and a full wine room ready for your enjoyment. It opens up at 5 pm, and it is going to be reserved as a member’s only venue. Being that it is an elegantly designed space, we ask that you make your attire match, so no hats or swimsuits is suggested. It is also to be 21 yr old and up.
This week’s dining specials are as follows: Boursin Caprese Salad—fresh sliced tomatoes, creamy Boursin cheese, basil leaves, garlic oil, and balsamic glaze. Shrimp Cargot—fresh shrimp cooked in roasted garlic butter topped with pepperjack cheese and served with rosemary crostinis. Almond Crusted Salmon—Atlantic salmon rolled in an almond crust topped with an apricot glaze, served with cranberry ancient grains and broccolini.
Hooker’s Special: Smothered Swiss Burger – black Angus charred burger served open face on rye bread and smothered with mushroom gravy served with mashed potatoes.
I would like to employ an open “email/call” policy to hear what you would like to see at the clubs. So feel free to call, email, or text me about any events, menu changes, or general needs you would want from your club. You can reach me at 512-284-5825 and brandon.rascoe@arrowheadok.com.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Club,
Brandon Rascoe

The weather is gonna be great this weekend. We’ve got the 5 o’clock somewhere party till 7 on Friday; after that, DJ Uber will be spinning records and taking requests till midnight. Saturday night the band, “Risky Business “, takes the stage from 8 till midnight. The Sooners softball team could still be playing this weekend, and the Belmont Stakes is Saturday around 5. Don’t forget Sunday steak and lobster and Mexican Monday. So, we will see you at the place, “where all our friends are hookers “. Mikey.
|
With the increasing warm weather, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of manufacturer incentives. They want a successful year and are well on their way. We have 3 great brands offering you free money! Take advantage and come see me. All boats are clean and ready for immediate demo, and prices are clearly marked.
|
We were fortunate enough to participate in the Texoma Boat Show in downtown Kingston this last weekend. We had a great time with lots of new friends, as well as plenty of old ones who said hello.
We had great food, lots of boats, vendors for shopping, and a Jimmy Buffett band. I'm looking forward to next year to doing it again. Next time we will hang out for a weekend on the water!
Some big news is that the new drive into the dealership is complete! You can now enter from the mall side into the store right from the road. It is great to pull right in by all the new and used boats. We are working on the right drop-off spot for service, but it will be marked soon for your convenience.
June is the biggest month of the year for boating. This year, all our Manufacturers are stepping up with great rebates to add in with great discounts from Arrowhead. Make sure you act quickly, though; they will not last long, and the 4th of July will be here sooner than you think. Let’s make summer last as long as possible this year!
Make sure you follow us on Facebook for new products, specials, and events all year long.

Disney Island News,
What a fun time we had raising money for the South Grand Lake Airport and the kids of Ketchum High School. I just found out they have 15 kids enrolled in aeronautics. That's amazing.
I am going to have a contest. The most voted-on picture taken in my photo booth or the one I like the most, LOL, will win a pizza party at Sharky's with me as the host. To qualify, you will need to fill up with Marine Pure Diesel, 91 or 87. Then, all come inside for a picture, share it on our Facebook page, and tag Cedar Port Marina. This will be a fun contest. Two categories diesel, and pure fuel. Most of all, come in and let's have some fun.
| |
Don’t forget to stop in and fill up with low sulfur diesel. It’s the best and purest on the lake. Direct from holly in Kansas. No setting around in jobbers tanks.
Ready to learn to fly? Try the Ketchum airport or you just want to hire a ride they can do it. | What a great turn out we had . Not sure how much money we raised but I know it cost 10k to have dinner and some peoples house.
This is our Senator Micheal Bergstrom awarding Brent Howard with his timeless work making the airport what it is today. There is a new terminal going in as well a a major hanger. The airport property is now Brent Howard field. What an accomplishment headed up by Brent Howard and many other people that were in attendance. It’s ran 100% by volunteers. If that’s your calling jump in and be a part of a grand group of professionals. Thank you Grand Lakers .
When was the last time your boat had a tune-up?
Tune-ups are recommended every 2-5 years to keep your engine in top running condition! A tune-up consists of replacing the spark plugs, wires cap, and rotor. If your engine is popping, backfiring, vibrating, or running rough or sluggish, it may just need a tune-up. Over time corrosion can build up on spark plugs and the cap and rotor, causing a misfire to occur. If you aren’t sure when the last time your engine was last tuned up, please contact us, and we will be able to assist you. An investment today can save you big later in the season!!
|
If you have any questions or need technical assistance with your boat, give us a call, and we’ll be happy to help with whatever we can. As always, it is best to send us an email so we both have less chance of miscommunication unless it's urgent; then please call us. As always, have a wonderful time on the beautiful Grand, and have a safe boating season.

BEST NEWS OF SUMMER
Two best news events of this week. Outside temperatures are now reaching 80, including Grand Lake, where the water temperature has now crossed over into the 80s. Summer is here! Time to start enjoying the "Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer!, Those Days of Soda, Pretzels and ………….BEER!"
Excitement and Enthusiasm were overwhelming at the newly named Brent Howard Field, formerly South Grand Lake Regional Airport. It's an honor so deserving for Brent. For years, I have watched him nurture the airport with his Labor of Love. And now, look at the results and what has been accomplished! The airport's success has even flowed into the Ketchum Schools with an aeronautics course that will introduce students to the world of aviation and all kinds of career opportunities, including getting a private pilot's license by the time they graduate. I think Ketchum schools need to adopt a new saying, "Ketchum Schools are where the sky is only the beginning, not the limit!"
The Brent Howard field is getting a new terminal building and raising funds to make an additional 500-foot runway extension, giving it an insurance-required one-mile runway. (it is already a mile long. Technically, 500 feet is required in case there is an 18-wheeler pulling a box trailer on either end of the runway, causing the trajectory of the plane to not have a full mile of the runway) The airport is growing, and so is the Ketchum School system. We must keep these improvements coming and keep investing in Ketchum Schools. Nothing will add more to South Grand Lake's economic growth than investing in our schools and the airport. I predict the next BIG thing to happen at the Brent Howard Field is commuter round-trip traffic from Wichita, Kansas City, OKC & Dallas.
Our schools have got to be on the leading edge of education to attract young families to Grand Lake and support the economic boom that is coming. I GUARANTEE IT! Grand Lake will advance and change more in the next 25 years than it has in the previous 84 years.
The towns of Ketchum, Tia Juna, Langley, and Disney need to quit annexing boundary wars, come together under one tent, and form a new city called South Grand Lake! The last time I looked, we already had a turnpike gate on I-44. It reads Adair Foyle & South Grand Lake! Suburbs of this new city will be Langley, Ketchum, Disney, & Tia Juana. Businesses and housing will fill in between all these neighborhoods. It is already happening if you haven't already noticed. These projects of the school and the airport have to happen now in order to handle the economic boom ahead. If not, this "Golden" opportunity will pass us by. "If your ship of fortune doesn't come in, then swim out to it!" Let's start swimming!

THE BELMONT STAKES
This Saturday, post time is 5:44 P.m. from Elmont, New York! It's not a Triple Crown Race. We will do an Oyster Roast, but there will not be a betting window. It will be interesting to see if Mystic Dan can finish first or second again. He’s got a pretty good record through two races.

THE JUNGLE PARTY SAT JUNE 15
An all-out Jungle Party will take place outside on the CYC pool deck on Saturday, June 15. Thanks to 🎉Brenda Harwood and Linda Badley🎉, the pool deck does indeed look like a Jungle. All kinds of plants, palm trees, etc. The pool deck is really incredible! Tiffany McKibben and Leta Reed have worked hard planning this event. Put a bone in your nose and plan on attending. We are bringing in a pygmy tribe from South Borneo to give us some hands-on head-shrinking demonstrations and body-boiling! This party does not have a food element, so make sure you get reservations in the dining room, buffet, or Hookers.

FATHERS DAY STEAK COOKOUT SUNDAY, JUNE 16
In addition to a Fathers Day slant on the Sunday Brunch 10 am to 2 pm. It will be the same price as regular Sunday Brunch. Sunday night Cookout at Hookers will have an additional Porterhouse and Ribs option. Be sure to treat Dad to a fine fire-broiled steak and lobster dinner.

BREAKING NEWS
The OU Sooner girls' softball team has made it into the NCAA Softball World Series! This will be an attempt for them to win their IV Championship! OSU lost out, but OU won their elimination game in extra innings with a walk-off home run! They will face Texas in a best-of-three series. Come on, Sooners.
OSU & OU are both are out of the men’s baseball tournament.
NASCAR: Last week's race was really wild. Our Norman, Oklahoma driver Christopher Bell was set up to win the race when his engine gave up dueling for the lead and the win. He still finished 7th. Ryan Blaney looked to be a sure winner, but then he ran out of gas on the white flag lap, allowing Austin Cindrit to win. This week's race is in Sonoma, California.
PGA: Robert McIntyre won the BBC Canadian open with a 16 under par showing. Ever wonder why I don’t play golf? This week, it’s the Memorial Tournament from Dublin, Ohio.

BOAT SALES
This is the time of year when all focus is on year-end closeouts and model year changeover. Manufacturers are offering close-out specials and incentives for 2025 orders. We have 2024s to sell, and 2025s may be ordered. We can go both directions and save you money! The key is to get set up and ready for the Fourth of July, which is coming sooner than you think!

DUCK CREEK FIREWORKS
The fund is now at $98,286, leaving us $61,714 short of the goal. Your support and loyalty are certainly appreciated and needed. The show is the biggest in Oklahoma and, for that matter, bigger than any other show in the four-state area. Our fireworks company knows of no other larger shows that are solely supported by public donations. Phil Dinsmore, owner of Pryor Wast and Re-cycling, made a $1,000 donation. He has asked that we play Toby Keith’s “Happy Birthday America” during the F-16 flyover. Toby was inspired to write that song while watching the Duck Creek F-16 flyover. Neat story. We miss you, Toby. Toby has three songs in our fireworks soundtrack more than any other artist.
Our patriarch and organizer of the Duck Creek Fireworks for many years, W. W. (Bill) Bailey, Capt. USMC deceased has approved. I don’t do anything about the fireworks show without consulting Bill first. He is the reason we have the Duck Creek Fireworks and that it has lasted for so many years! Since the end of the Second World War. A WWII veteran who survived 6 First Wave landing in the South Pacific. Over half his platoon died in the Pacific. Bill returned after the War. Went to law school on the GI Bill. He practiced law in his home town Vinita, Oklahoma, until his death. A proud American patriot, not afraid to express that and be thankful to be an American and FREE!
Special recognition to the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which was the beginning of the end of the Nazis.

The SUN is rising over Duck Creek. No cars, no traffic, and the ONLY thing we overlook is the Lake! And it is Grand, Beaver, Grove, and Oklahoma City!

~By Jan Burke
Oklahoma weather changes hour to hour. Rainy days don’t deter people from heading to the lake and taking advantage of all the activities available to them. They know that the sun can pop out quickly. A positive by-product of the rain is that the landscape around the lake is lush and green, especially the golf course. Playing a round of golf before you head out onto the lake is a great way to spend time with friends. At the Coves Golf Club, you will find breathtaking scenery around every corner.
The Coves Men’s Golf Association’s annual Member-Guest tournament starts today and ends with the awards banquet on Saturday night at CYC. Be sure to take the time this week to check out The Coves Golf Club. For membership opportunities, setting up golf lessons, tee times, or touring the course, contact Mark Hill, Pro Shop Manager, at (918) 782-3220.

LAYLA YOUNG
Layla Young has been employed in the office at Cedar Port Marina for over one year. She is the daughter of JD and Lisa Holt and graduated from Adair High School. Layla grew up with three sisters; Hillary, age 33; Haley, age 29; and Alie, age 26. Layla has two boys; Koy, age 8, and Kaser, age 4.
Layla states that she grew up going to Lake Hudson. She especially loves being outside and at or on the lake. In her responsibilities at Cedar Port Marina, she assists Jerry Cookson with sales paperwork, as well as staff scheduling and ship store inventory/fuel management. Layla said that Jerry keeps things rolling with sales and events, and it is a fast-paced environment, especially during the busy boating season. One of the things she most enjoys about her job is the opportunity to build customer relationships. She ruminates that one of the most important lessons she has learned in her position thus far is that everyone has a different need, so it's important to read people and learn those needs to help turn them into happy and satisfied customers. Layla says that one piece of advice she would pass on to a new person just starting in her position is to watch and learn; don't think you know everything because there is a lot to learn.
Outside of working at Cedar Port Marina, Layla loves to spend time with her 21-year-old horse, Sunny. She states that rodeo, barrel racing, and showing horses are her passions and that horse therapy is incredible. Something you might not know about Layla is that she is an avid reader. She prefers to indulge in anything historical, such as ancient civilization or ancient history.
Thank you, Layla Young, for your sincere dedication and ambitious work ethic to Cedar Port Marina!
