June 2021
Register Today!
Our learning journey with Candid continues as we take a closer look at proposal writing!

The third installment of On the Menu is slated for June 22.

We want to arm YOU with the tools and skills you need to successfully engage with the software to help strengthen your funding prospects and deepen your funding pool.

Join us for the next session!
Our Candid trainer will be walking us through the elements of proposal writing.

Remember, CFOV has these tools available for our community and we would love to host your research in the dedicated and comfortable space we've created on our second floor!

There is NO COST to participate in the series and we hope you'll make
space in your schedule to join us. These are stand-alone sessions - that means you can join in any combination that makes sense with your interest and availability.

And! If you can't join us, register anyway!
Our facilitator, Susan Shiroma from Candid, will send the session and
supporting materials to all registrants!
Welcome, Nick!
Please join us in welcoming Nick Musgrave to the CFOV team!

Nick serves as our Director of Development, working to match donors’ passions
with community needs for the benefit of both.

He grew up in Parkersburg and attended college in Hastings, Nebraska.

He started his career working in campaigns and most recently served in a
development role with the West Liberty University Foundation.

Nick and his wife, McKenna, reside in North Wheeling and enjoy being part of the revitalization of the downtown area. He considers himself fortunate to be living and working in the Ohio Valley,
and hopes to create opportunities for more young people to do the same.

He is eager to meet more of the CFOV’s donors, professional partners, and friends like you.
He can be reached at (304) 242-3144 or nick@cfov.org.

WVNPA Resources
We encourage our area's nonprofit professionals to explore the opportunities made possible through the
West Virginia Nonprofit Association. Not only is the organization dedicated to nonprofit service, it maintains a packed calendar of courses and learning opportunities!

A social media course series is coming up, along with a virtual leadership summit!
CFOV and FDO - a Partnership to Support Your Grantseeking!
We invite you to accept our invitation to explore the resources available through
Foundation Directory Online!

Grantseekers of all experience levels can benefit from this comprehensive service!

As a member of Candid's Funding Information Network, CFOV can share free public access to
databases and resources designed with grantseekers in mind.

The Foundation Directory Online (FDO) is a GIANT database of funding opportunities and details.
Thanks to CFOV, this resource was previously available on the campus of Wheeling University
some years ago and under the umbrella of the Foundation Center.
After some rebranding and fine tuning, the service is now a Candid product.

Not only is it much more robust, but it is now available in our building!

CFOV's commitment to area nonprofits is certainly strengthened through this partnership.
A dedicated space on the second floor of our building serves as a nonprofit resource center
and features workstations connected to the FDO.

Although attendance at these sessions is not required to be a successful grantseeker,
they will certainly help to orient you to become an efficient researcher!

In addition to the facilitated On the Menu sessions, Candid has a huge
tutorial library full of resources to get you ready to search!

When you are ready, reach out to us and make a reservation to use the
dedicated FDO database space on our second floor.

This in-person setting is NOT the same thing as the limited day pass mentioned during our April Zoom session.

We look forward to supporting your grantseeking and thank the Elizabeth Stifel Kline Foundation for providing the funding that allows us to offer this resource to our community!
2021 Scholarships
High school seniors are celebrating graduation, college students are breathing a little easier with exams behind them and that means CFOV is focusing on scholarships!

The 2021 scholarship season was met with some challenges due to COVID,
but hundreds of applications were received and reviewed.

More than 180 students will be receiving scholarship support that totals $357,574!
CFOV scholarships are diverse and are for the benefit of students at varying stages of higher education.

This year, four new scholarship funds were added to our portfolio.
The John Nicholas Varlas and Nancy Allen Varlas Scholarship, the David Robertson Scholarship,
the May Green Scholarship and the Lloyd Shirl & Esta Mae Taggart Scholarship
will be benefiting recipients for the first time!

Information is being gathered about recipients and their college plans -
they'll be heading off to campus before long!

CFOV is proud to support higher education through scholarships and
appreciate the donors who made these opportunities possible!
