COLLEGE CHECKLIST
Families of students who will be seniors next year, and plan to apply for college: this is a super busy season but, as your schedules open up, take time to sit down with your student and make a plan for college. Our FALA School Counseling
Website
has a plethora of helpful information. You may want to start with the
Checklist,
if you haven't already.
Please encourage your student to keep up to date with FALA Counselor emails. We send emails almost every week informing students about college visits, scholarship opportunities, and more!
FINAL DE Announcement
As the
Dual Enrollment
(DE) process is coming to a close, there is one last announcement FALA has for students/families who are interested in taking advantage of the DE Program.
Students were notified via email May 8th, if they displayed interest in a DE class that requires a placement test (ACCUPLACER Test) and have yet to place into the class.
As a reminder, testing dates that were offered at FALA included April 22nd, April 23rd, April 29th, and April 30th.
Students who were contacted have to test at CCC over the summer in order to be placed into your requested DE class in the Fall of next year.
DE Coordinator, Janine Birchard, will be on maternity leave next Fall
, so
students
MUST
take the initiative to notify the interim counselor, Sara J., in the Fall
of their passing ACCUPLACER score
if they place into a DE class over the summer.
Students have 3 opportunities to test. If after 3 attempts, they do not place into the DE course, they do not need to fret! There is still an opportunity for students to do an AP class (only for AP English and AP Calculus).
Contact DE Coordinator, Janine Birchard, if you have any questions or concerns.
FALA Students Place 1st in Math Competition!
FALA competed at the 2019 Coconino County 7th and 8th Grade Math Competition:
8th grade speed competition: 1st Place
8th grade “school face-off” competition: 1st Place
Otis Koller: Otis took 4th place for the 45 question, individually done, 40 minute timed test. He worked hard and busted through hours of problem solving (with a broken wrist!!!!) to execute an amazing job on the test. You rock!!!
Claire Watanabe: As a 6th grader competing in a 7th and 8th grade math event, Claire killed it! She took home 7th place for the 45 question, individually done, 40 minute timed test. There were close to 100 students attending this event and fear or failure was not an option for her. Good job! -Mistler
