Week Five: “Erasing the Line”
This weekend, we continue our Bearing Witness series with the theme "Transgressing Boundaries."
God shows up in the most surprising places, with people who are not expected to have access to God's grace and love. As we continue our Bearing Witness series, today's readings challenge us to consider who is with God and who God is with. Both readings, Acts indirectly and Matthew directly, include the faith of Roman centurions.
The centurions were not converted in the stories; God was with them before the stories began. The Jewish people, the “church” people, following Jesus and Peter were no doubt surprised that representatives of the enemy could have the faith and grace God so obviously present in them. The centurions helped grow and expand the church's faith.
Will we find surprising people in surprising places filled with grace and love of God if we put more effort into looking? How can we better accept and appreciate the Imago Dei, the image of God in ALL people?
Join us this weekend to find out.
