Grayson County families to end child homelessness.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR

Dear friends,

As the seasons change, so do we. This fall brings new faces, fresh opportunities, and exciting changes within Family Promise, but our commitment remains the same: helping families find stability and hope.

One thing that has not changed is the kindness and generosity you show the families we serve. It never ceases to amaze us! You have volunteered countless hours, dropped off towels, dishes, highchairs, diapers, food, toiletries, and hygiene items. Last week a thoughtful family dropped off some baby items, and the very next day, a young mother with a newborn called needing those very things! Your kindness and generosity provide more than just material goods. They help restore dignity and self worth. Thank you!

Read on to see what else is new. Until the temperature changes, stay cool and hydrated!

Gratefully,

Leigh

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

Thursday, September 17, Family Promise of Grayson County will be participating in North Texas Giving Day, an online event for our whole region. Your gift helps us achieve our vision of a community where no child is homeless.

Early giving for the Communities Foundation of Texas' North Texas Giving Day has started! From now through September 17th, you can make your gift through Early Giving:

Last year, $78 million was raised to help support over 3500 North Texas organizations. Be part of something great!

Every donation to Family Promise improves lives:

  • $25 buys a birth certificate so an individual can enroll in school, work, or housing
  • $50 buys diapers for a baby for a month
  • $100 pays for a week of gasoline so parents can drive to work and school
  • $200 pays for a week of daycare for one child while parents are at work
  • $500 gives Day Center support for one week so families have a place to bathe, wash clothes, pursue employment, and be together
  • $1000 assists families with rent or utility payments so that they may remain in their homes

We so appreciate your generosity and hope you will include us among the local nonprofits you support!

KRISTI HAS GRADUATED TO A NEW ADVENTURE

The rumors are true: Kristi Shilling has left the building. In no way has she left our hearts, though! We miss her already!

Kristi's genuine kindness, patience, and willingness to go the extra mile to help others has made a lasting difference in the lives of everyone around her--especially for those of us who have had the pleasure of working with her. Her warm and caring spirit make even the most challenging days a little easier, and her sense of humor is irreplaceable! We are so grateful for all Kristi and her family have given to our Family Promise team over the past nearly four years.

Kristi has jumped with both feet into her new job with GoSendMe Global. We wish her the very best in her next adventure and hope it is everything she wants it to be and more! We know Kristi will be a blessing where ever she goes, but we sure hope she comes back to visit occasionally! Thank you, Kristi! We love you!

SPENDING LIFE WISELY

After a summer break, our banking classes have resumed! First United Bank representatives Haley Banks and Shauna Sellers did a great job covering the importance of having a budget, while Leigh and Kristi enjoyed playing with the children in the nursery.

As always, classes are open to everyone, and snacks and childcare are provided. Our next class will be Tuesday, September 22, from 5:30-6:30 at the Family Promise Day Center (901 E. Houston Street in Sherman). Come join us!

WE ARE HIRING!

To meet the demands of our ever-expanding programs, we are hiring a full time Resource Advocate! We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, self-motivated individual with good judgment and organizational skills. The Resource Advocate helps manage programs that assist families experiencing homelessness, and provides comprehensive case management designed to help guests find permanent housing.

The interviewing process is underway, but it is not too late for the perfect candidate to apply! If you or someone you know would be a good fit and/or would like to know more about the position, please call Leigh at 903-771-0322 ext. 3, or email your resume to:

lwalker@FamilyPromiseGrayson.org.

ALL ABOARD!

We are accepting applications for potential board members. New terms usually begin in January and last three years. Board meetings are held monthly (except July and December) and usually last about an hour. If you have a passion for helping others and enjoy working with fun and energetic people, please prayerfully consider applying.

Contact Jessica Wright (rev.jessica@gracesherman.org) or call Leigh Walker (903-771-0322 ext. 3) for more information.
