JULY 2025

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Here in Vermont, it is finally warm, after much rain. Summer has arrived. The gardens are planted. The wood chopped. The water brought. Repairs made and mice chased away. I have the luxury of long days to paint, but the work does not come easy. I seek inspiration in words and images.

I’m looking for something to light up and catch fire within me. And suddenly – it does! A little spark of an idea that tingles. Something I see – almost feel – peripherally. Along the edges of my vision. Launching me into the great unknown of art making.

In her book “Big Magic,” Elizabeth Gilbert talks about getting the Big Idea and making it real. She philosophizes that the idea is a gift, looking for someone to make manifest its’ existence. if you don’t accept this gift, the idea will seek someone else who will.

I accept the gift of good ideas and hope that you will, too. This is where the good work wants to be found. Have a wonderful summer. Make art. Love your people.

Words and Images Meetup

Haiku Hike Field Trip

On MAY 13th the Words & Images Creative Meetup met in downtown Tucson to view the

6th Annual Spring Haiku Hike, which was displayed from from MAR 20 - JUNE 1, 2025. This project was presented by the Downtown Tucson Partnership and the University of Arizona Poetry Center. Twenty Haiku poems were chosen from 1954 submissions, representing 34 different states and 31 countries, with 1187 entries from Tucson.

The poems were printed on plexiglass and displayed in large flower pots brimming with spring color within a four block area.

After our “hike” we enjoyed brunch together on the patio at the Cup Cafe at

Hotel Congress. The morning proved to be lovely activity before the heat of

summer set in.

Consider planning a field trip with your Creative Meetup

Creative Meetups

Many of the Creative Meetups are on summer hiatus, but a few groups are still quietly working on FUN summer projects.

If you’ve been thinking about participating in a Meetup, don’t wait—check out our Website for the Creative Meetup that speaks to you and aligns with your schedule, then email the Meetup Contact to add your name to its wait list today.
