New Mexico REGULATED NORM Specific Licensing

The RCB in NMED within the state of New Mexico is requiring and issuing specific licenses for generators and contractors who engage in transferring Regulated NORM for long-term treatment, storage, disposal, and also release for unrestricted use. One generator license has been issued, with others are in queue. Several contractor specific licenses have been issued. Contractor licenses are required for any contractor involved in the above activities, and may include: surveying/sampling, transportation, servicing (depending on the methods used), decontamination, long-term storage, etc. If this is news to you, contact us for more details. We write more specific licenses for NORM activities in the U.S. than anyone else for the past 15 years.

Compacts

The Rocky Mountain Low Level Waste compact has updated their Rule 6 for the export of material. One of the significant updates is that the fee changed, from $2.00/cubic foot to $4.50/cubic foot. The updated rule is effective as of earlier this year. The compact's website is found at rmllwb.us.

The RMLLW compact is also denying export applications if the generator does not have a specific license in the state of New Mexico. Contact us for more information on obtaining applicable licensing.
