"He cried out in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!' " - 1 John 11:43

Here we are, stuck indoors, all activities cancelled, EVEN weekly Mass! We might feel as though we are in a tomb of sorts. As when Martha and Mary called on Jesus when Lazarus fell ill, he did not rush, he took his time, so much so that Lazarus died before Jesus arrived.

So we pray and wait. Sounds like another story in the Bible. Jesus had a band of followers. He tried to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead. How did they respond? They refused to accept the foretelling of his passion. They slept while he prayed, they betrayed him, denied him, abandoned him in fear and went into hiding. Jesus went into the tomb for three days.

BUT HE AROSE!

He appeared to the disciples and instructed them to WAIT. We know now they were waiting for the Holy Spirit. What do we wait for now?

We know the outcome of this virus, we will overcome, it will pass. Some will die an leave loved ones behind. Some will experience the virus firsthand and live to tell about it. Most will hunker down and wait it out.

BUT God will PREVAIL!

GOODNESS and LOVE will reign while the virus will pass.

How will we prepare for the day when Jesus calls out to us, "Come Out!" How will we have prepared ourselves to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Will we allow them to take deeper root, make bigger changes in us, and give us courage to more effectively use them?
