Congregational Check-In on October 18
The Vestry invites you to another Congregational Check-in on October 18 at the
conclusion of the 10am service in the Parish Hall. There will be a review of Vestry activities since the last check-in, a finance report, a preview of the next month’s worship at St. David’s, and a brief update about the Search. Rob Feild has promised to bring cookies. We are grateful to all who showed up for the last Check-in and look forward to seeing you all on the 18th.
Blessing of the pets service
Bring your friendly pets (or photos of your pets) this Sunday, October 4 at 2pm to receive a blessing! All pets must be crated or leashed. Service will take place in the parking lot by the cross. If you can help with set up/clean up, please contact Courtney Mason at cmasonx2@gmail.com.
Scouts peanuts and popcorn sale
The Scouts will be here on Sunday, October 18 to sell peanuts and popcorn between services. Let's support our Scouts!
Trunk Or Treat
Trunk or Treat will be on October 25 from 2-4pm. This is an afternoon of fun, treats and activities for the neighborhood kids (and adult "kids" too). Think about decorating a trunk, dressing up and playing games and welcoming the neighborhood. Or you can help decorate the parking lot with Halloween decor. There will be lots of other ways to help, too. There is a basket in the narthex to collect Halloween candy to pass out, so please pick up a bag next time you go to the store. We are hoping for at least six trunks. A sign up sheet for volunteering and trunks is in the narthex.
Chesterfield Food Bank Thanksgiving Meal Packages
Our food drive for this very important community event is underway. The bags with the list attached are in the narthex so please pick one up and fill the bag with the food needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Follow the simple instructions and return the bags no later than Sunday, November 15. If you would like to help but can't fill a bag, the Chesterfield Food Bank will also need $20 grocery store gift cards (i.e. Food Lion) to be given out with the food bags. The collected bags will be delivered to the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds on Monday, November 16. A couple years ago, St. David's contributed 100 bags for CCHASM - let's see if we can match that!!! If you have questions, contact Joannie Smithson at 804-484-4248 or by email.
Calling all Acolytes, LEMs, Servers and St. David’s Family!!!
Join us for the Acolyte Festival at Washington National Cathedral! This event is not just for acolytes. Last year, several churches had acolytes, lay eucharistic ministers (LEMs) and servers in general join the procession and we'd love to have a large St. David's group this year! Feel free to talk to myself, Hanby, Vaden, Hattan or Aria if you want to hear about our experiences! It was beautiful, moving, breathtaking and one of my most memorable experiences!
Saturday, October 10, Washington National Cathedral will host its annual Acolyte Festival...a day of worship, fellowship, learning, and fun for acolytes, LEMs, families, and parishioners of all ages. The day begins with the "Grandest of Processions" as acolytes and LEMs from across the region process into the cathedral for a Festival Holy Eucharist. You don’t have to stay all day! For reference, below is the schedule of the day.
Festival Schedule:
8:30am - Doors open and check-in begins
10am - Festival Holy Eucharist with the Grandest of Processions
11:30am - Prepaid lunches available – You can leave at lunch or stay for the activities! Attendance at the afternoon activities is optional.
12pm – 2pm - Cathedral Activities & Tours
Activities include:
- LEGO® Cathedral exhibit (all registered acolytes can add a brick to the Cathedral under construction)
- Cathedral treasures on display
- Liturgical kite and streamer making
- Now and Forever Windows display and puzzles
- Tower Climb Tours at 1pm, 1:30pm, and 2pm (prepaid fee; limited space)
- Guided Spotlight Tours at 1pm, 1:30pm, and 2pm (prepaid fee; limited space)
12:30pm – 1pm - Organ Demonstration
1pm – 2pm - Workshops (Thurible Training, The History of Vergers)
I will be registering our group in the next 2 weeks and need to provide counts, so if you and/or your family would like to attend, please email me at michellehodges76@gmail.com.
Let's make this the largest St. David's turnout many of us have ever seen!
Kairos Cookies - Update
Kairos prison ministries for Virginia needs dozens of cookies for a typical Kairos walk weekend. We have found that homemade cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God’s concern for a group of people who seldom encounter either during their daily lives. (Matthew 25:36)
-
Rick Mason will be attending the Kairos walk at the State Farm Correctional Center on Sunday, October 25. If you would like to attend or would like more information, email Rick Mason at jh3rmason@gmail.com.
-
Cookie Preparation: The types of cookies that are generally acceptable are: oatmeal, peanut butter, molasses, chocolate chip, ginger and sugar. Cookies recipes are available here.
-
Packing the Cookies: Bag thoroughly cooled cookies in a quart sized Zip Lock bag, a dozen cookies to a bag. Label each bag with the cookie type inside. Freeze all cookies if not using within 12 days.
- NOTE: PLEASE BRING YOUR COOKIES TO THE CHURCH NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18. (THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE DATE PREVIOUSLY LISTED.)
Would you like to pray for everyone involved in this Kairos weekend? You can sign up for the prayer vigil here.
