With winter fast approaching for many of us, now is the time to think about preventative maintenance for our aircooled and watercooled Porsche engines. On Saturday, November 14th, Charles Navarro spoke at a Columbus, OH PCA Tech event on this very topic. We’ve made available for download the presentation for those interested in protecting your investment:

Besides the obligatory oil changes and use of fuel stabilizer on cars going into storage, there is great need for preventative maintenance even on newer daily driven cars, even if they aren’t a Porsche. Many manufacturers claim that many fluids are “lifetime” and do not offer recommendations on service intervals. Once such example is coolant – some shops will check the pH to determine if the lifetime coolant needs replacing, but changing the coolant and maybe even the water pump and thermostat as part of your regular scheduled service might be a good idea. Hop on over to Auto Service World’s “The Invisible Enemy” to learn more about coolant and cooling systems.

In many cases we recommend changing fluids and replacing wear items like fan or serpentine belts at half the time or mileage recommended by vehicle manufacturers. This is akin to observing “severe service” intervals some manufacturers used to provide. Be sure to read our free download on “Protecting Your Investment” to find out what needs servicing and when on all your Porsche vehicles.
