Lance Olsen is author of more than 25 books of and about innovative writing. His short stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in hundreds of journals and anthologies. He teaches experimental narrative theory and practice at the University of Utah.
At the center of Skin Elegies stands an American couple who have fled their increasingly repressive country, now under the authoritarian rule of the Reformation Government, by transferring to a quantum computer housed in North Africa. The novel's structure mimics a constellation of firing neurons—a sparking collage of many tiny narraticules flickering through the brain of one of the refugees as it is digitized.

Strange Children tells the story of a fourteen-year-old boy and a twelve-year-old girl in a polygamist commune who fall in love and consummate that love, breaking religious law. They are caught, and a year later, she gives birth to his father's child while the boy commits murder four hundred miles away—a crime that will slowly unravel the community.

Melanie Rae Thon is the author of many works of fiction, including The Voice of the River. Her work has been in many journals and anthologies. She has taught at Emerson College, the University of Massachusetts Boston, Syracuse University, Ohio State University, and the University of Utah.
In The Voice of the River, a search for missing seventeen-year-old Kai Dionne and his dog Talia illuminiates the inner lives of a multitude of individuals with charged needs and desires. Each person who comes to the river brings his or her secret needs and desires; each has known loss, and all are survivors. Kai and Talia belong to, and are loved by, a whole community. As strangers work together toward a single cause, they become family—bound by love not only to the ones lost, but to all who gather.

Deborah Goodrich Royce will join us virtually on our YouTube channel to read from and discuss her book, Ruby Falls, a nail-biting tale of a fragile young actress, the new husband she barely knows, and her growing suspicion that the secrets he harbors may eclipse her own.
Deborah holds a BA in French and Italian from Lake Erie College and an honorary doctorate from the same institution. In an earlier life, she was an actress in film and television and a story editor at Miramax Films. Ruby Falls is her second psychological thriller, and she owes a debt of gratitude for its inspiration to Daphne du Maurier and Alfred Hitchcock.

In The Last Days of the Dinosaurs, Black walks readers through what happened in the days, the years, the centuries, and the million years after the impact, tracking the sweeping disruptions that overtook this one spot, and imagining what might have been happening elsewhere on the globe. Life’s losses were sharp and deeply-felt, but the hope carried by the beings that survived sets the stage for the world as we know it now.
Riley Black (she/her) has been heralded as “one of our premier gifted young science writers” and is the critically-acclaimed author of Skeleton Keys, My Beloved Brontosaurus, Written in Stone, and When Dinosaurs Ruled. An online columnist for Scientific American, Riley has become a widely-recognized expert on paleontology and has appeared on programs such as Nova, Science Friday, HuffingtonPost Live, and All Things Considered. Riley has also written on nerdy pop culture.
