Don't miss the Friends BOOK SALE MAY 1 and 2!
Happy Anniversary to us! On April 28th, the FRIENDS of New Milford Library celebrated their 30th anniversary as members of the Friends of Connecticut Libraries. This organization includes over 100 groups from all around the state. Online forums discuss current issues; a quarterly newsletter provides a platform to spotlight library-related topics and to promote book sales, programs, and fundraising ideas. The annual meeting includes awards recognizing an outstanding group, individual, and project. We were the proud recipients of the state group award in 2017!
May brings us green grass, spring flowers, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. It is also National Military Appreciation Month, being celebrated with a selection of military history books in Friendly Finds. Proceeds from book sales are used to fund museum passes and a wide variety of programs at the library. You get to enjoy the books and the benefits! Cash, check, and Venmo are accepted. We gratefully accept donations of books in good condition that you no longer need or want. Volunteers will be at the back entrance of the library every Saturday from 9:30 until Noon for assistance. (You can also return books that you previously purchased from the FRIENDS!) To learn more, visit our website at www.FONML.com or e-mail us at FONML001@gmail.com

Hoopla Flex and Instant Borrows!
NMPL offers both Hoopla Instant and Hoopla Flex titles to patrons. What's the difference?
Flex Titles vs. Instant Borrows on Hoopla
Flex titles are digital items your library has purchased, often including newer releases and bestsellers. These may require placing a hold if they’re currently in use, and you can even suggest titles for the library to add.
Instant borrows come from Hoopla’s own collection and are always available with no waiting. Keep in mind that even if you’ve used all your Instant Borrows for the month, you may still have Flex Titles available. To save time, try using Advanced Search to quickly find what you need.
A recent addition to the BingePass offering, SeasonPass extends this access to select full TV seasons with a single borrow. Patrons can explore new series or revisit a favorite, all with no waiting.
SeasonPass includes a wide range of TV content from BBC Studios, PBS Distribution, and other partners, with genres such as thrilling crime and mystery series, docuseries, dramas, period pieces, comedies, and educational shows—with more on the way in the coming months.

Belle and Her Missing Heart
A special book reading and signing with author Daniel Angeles will take place May 2, 2026 at 10:30 AM at NMPL.
Inspired by a brave little girl named Belle, this touching story was created to bring comfort to children and families navigating loss. It follows Belle as she searches for her “missing” heart, only to discover it has been with her all along — a powerful reminder of resilience, love, and the enduring connection we share with those we’ve lost.
Registration is required. Please call the Children's Department at (860)355-1191, ext. 4217, or stop by the library to sign-up.

What Is Story Time?
It’s time to register for Fall Story Times. Some people think that Story Time is just someone reading books to children. But there is a lot more that goes into our programming. At NMPL, we keep our groups separated by age. This way, we can offer the best program for your child’s social and emotional needs. The stories and activities are developmentally correct for your child. Depending on the age of the children, we use books, flannel board stories, puppets, music, arts and crafts that will enhance the session. So, it is important that the children are in the correct age group.
We keep the children with the other kids that they will potentially go to school with by being strict about the age of the child. Connecticut Public Schools are now requiring children to be five years old by September 1st of the school year in order to register for kindergarten. We back that up by having our registration for Story Time use the same cut-off dates.
- Little Ones Mondays (10:00 AM or 11:00 AM) Child must be 1 by Sept. 1, 2025
- Terrific Twos Thursdays (10:00 AM or 11:00 AM) Child must be 2 by Sept. 1, 2025
- 3, 4, 5- Year-Old Story Time Wed. (10:00 AM or 11:00 AM) Child must be 3, 4 or 5 by Sept. 1, 2025
We want to give your children the best start to a love of reading and using the library.
