Online Videos Help Members Apply for Their Pension

The 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds have created a series of online videos to help members complete their pension application and streamline the process. The videos provide members with step-by-step instructions on how to complete the Pension Option and Beneficiary Form properly so that they receive their pension quickly. There are separate videos tailored to those who are married and to those who are single, and they provide details on payment options for beneficiaries. Members can access the videos via QR codes on their pension application paperwork and on the Benefit Funds website. Additional videos in the Virtual Pension Counselor video series explain how members earn their pension benefits, what their pension options are, what documents—such as Social Security cards, recent pay stubs and passports or birth certificates—are needed, and whether they are eligible for retiree health benefits.

Benefit Fund’s Dependent Eligibility Verification Program Nears Completion

The 1199SEIU Greater New York Benefit Fund is concluding its 2024 Dependent Eligibility Verification Program (DEVP), again conducted by HMS, a firm that specializes in healthcare eligibility verification. The program verifies the marital status of 1199SEIU members’ and retirees’ spouses to protect benefit dollars and help ensure they and their eligible spouses continue to receive quality healthcare coverage. If your 1199SEIU employees and members have questions about the program, they may contact HMS at (866) 252-0527 to avoid interruption in their spouses’ coverage.

Training and Employment Funds Secure Major Award to Recruit and Train Healthcare Workers

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) is one of three Workforce Investment Organizations that will receive a total of $646 million through the New York State Career Pathways Training Program to recruit and train healthcare workers in shortage areas. New York Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement at a press conference at Funds headquarters in New York City on August 15. The funding, allocated over the next three years, will be used to recruit healthcare workers for participation in the program; provide tutoring, mentorships and apprenticeships; pay for tuition; and aid in job placement. Participants can take part in the program at any accredited college or approved training facility. Orientations for licensed practical nurses and respiratory therapists will begin in October. Interested members may register by calling (844) 833-1199 or visiting www.1199SEIUBenefits.org/training.
