Yay! Tazzarin is sailing!
Today, with the boat in very good order and with Bob's time running short, we opted to take a short shakedown cruise. So, at about 1530 this afternoon, we cast of the lines and headed out into Conception Bay. In winds sometime gusting to 30 knots, we sailed under just the roller furling genoa. It is about ten miles across the bay to the village of Brigus. We were making close to 7 knots under the reefed genoa.
Bob and I both felt exhilarated and rewarded for our labors. We were finally sailing! I think Bob is stunned by the beauty of this area, even on a chilly, showers, Cloudy sail. It was brisk. When we got up this morning it was 36 degrees, just above freezing. It has warmed some.
The entrance to Brigus is beautiful with rocky cliffs in stone of multi hues from grey to green to yellow to red. We are now tucked in a tight little cove inside Molly's Island just off the town. A photo of the entrance and another of Bob are below.
Tomorrow we will sail back to the Yacht Club. The next couple days will see a new crew member arrive, final provisioning and a departure northbound. Tazzarin is ready, so am I.
