During the current health emergency caused by the spread of COVID-19, Dorothy’s Place continues to provide services, as usual, for our guests and clients. We haven’t missed a single meal or a single day of service in any of our four programs: Dorothy’s Kitchen, Dorothy’s Drop-In Center, House of Peace Transitional Residence and Streets To Homes.

Everyone comes to work every day with a positive attitude and a servant’s humility.
With your support we proudly continue to serve and we know that hundreds of unsheltered people are most grateful.
Our program has experienced remarkable changes this past year. In April, our Streets To Homes team was chosen to case-manage 75 additional clients in the State’s Project Roomkey initiative, where medically frail unsheltered adults and families are sheltered in motel rooms. Our team was selected specifically to do this because of their experience case-managing clients in encampment areas. Despite the additional client load, we continued to assist clients into housing.

After years of planning, this Fall, Franciscan Workers received funding from the State of California through the Monterey/San Benito Counties Coalition of Homeless Services Providers and the City of Salinas to create a social/ medical/ mental health team of professionals to bring what chronically unsheltered consumers really need: multi-dimensional help that comes right to their encampment. This de-institutionalized service model will be another facet to the Dorothy's Place Streets To Homes program, already recognized for their expertise with chronically unsheltered consumers.

Our collaborative of providers’ first goal is to visit Salinas’ encampments with the purpose of developing the trust of chronically unsheltered consumers, as well as providing for basic social, medical and behavioral needs, and Hepatitis C testing and treatment, case management and housing navigation.
