New Class from Fr. Mike

On May 24, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Twenty-two people died that day: nineteen students, two teachers, and the young man who did the shooting. At least eighteen others were injured. It is the third deadliest school shooting in the United States.

At the time I was the rector St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Uvalde. I was called to and arrived at the hospital shortly before the first victims and families arrived.

Over the next couple of weeks I will offer reflections on my experience and St. Philip’s role in responding to the needs of individuals and the community.

-Fr. Mike Marsh

New Scam Warning

There is a new round of scam emails being sent. We have had St. Aidan's parishioners targeted already, so please be extra careful.

The current attempts are in the form of fake invitations to birthday and other celebrations and requests for money. They claim to be from fellow parishioners or clergy e-mail accounts. If you receive these emails, delete them.

These fraudulent emails appear to be party invitations but instead they contain malicious links that, when clicked, can download malware onto your computer or device. Hopefully, most current antivirus software will block these links. Nevertheless, you should delete these emails. If you have clicked one of these links, we recommend scanning your computer for malware and changing any important passwords.

If you have any questions at all about a strange request you get, please verify the sender and details, and if you need to, call the church office.

St. Aidan's Writing Group - Fruits of Our Labor

St. Aidan's has a writer's group that occasionally has "Fruits" to share with our congregation and friends. Please click on each link to access the essays and offerings from members of the group.

If you'd like to it try out, participate, and even join the group, be in touch with the office, and we'll put you in touch with the group's convener, Paul Voakes.

Good News from the Partnerships Team!

Trinity Church Wall Street in New York has just awarded St. Aidan’s another substantial grant to continue our work toward a mission-inspired and financially secure future for our church.

You may remember we received a $50,000 grant two years ago from Trinity, for the feasibility study that helped us to understand the economic and political environment in which we’re exploring the best uses for our property. This new award is a pre-development grant of $200,000, to help fund the next phases of this multi-year, multi-phase process. This will involve, over the next 12-18 months, securing partnerships with the University of Colorado (which our Vestry authorized us to pursue in December) and with the neighboring Wesley Foundation. Then we hope to identify and secure a developer whose values are in line with St. Aidan’s mission.

We need expertise — in finance, legal work such as contract negotiations, site planning, site design, and so much more, to ensure that we’re proceeding in St. Aidan’s best interests. This level of expertise is expensive, which is why the Partnerships Team is so full of gratitude this week. We give thanks to God, thanks for the leadership of our Clergy and Vestry, thanks to the congregation for ongoing support and prayers, and of course thanks to Trinity Wall Street: for appreciating our progress over the last two years, and now for appreciating the importance of sustaining our momentum.

Questions? Comments? Please contact Pam Greene (pamelagreene07@gmail.com) or Bal Patterson (bal43rd@gmail.com), the Partnership Team’s co-chairs.

Faithfully yours,

The Partnerships Team
