The remodeled kitchen at OUUC is up and running well! Due to your generosity, the kitchen has a new, larger, electric range and a commercial dishwasher. The range is well used for Thursday Community Dinners and on Saturday by the mutual aid group, Oly Food Not Bombs, who prepares hot meals for those who are houseless. This appliance, along with the new electric hot water heater, makes OUUC’s building fully powered by electricity.
The new dishwasher is next to a single residential dishwasher and does most of the dishes for Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. The commercial dishwasher works very differently than a residential dishwasher and requires different prep for the dishes. Some training is required and it’s easy to learn. Just reach out to OUUC’s new Facilities Manager, Jaydin Huber, or volunteer, Kedo Baye.
Thank you for your generosity to help OUUC live our mission and live as lightly as possible on the Earth.

| | | Unofficial Unitarian Universalist Campers, (UUUC) | Did you know that there is a group of OUUC Congregants who enjoy the fellowship of “camping” together? Some of us have RVs, others have tents, and some people participate while staying in state park cabins or yurts. All UUs (and Friends) are welcome to join us. We are not an “official” OUUC activity, hence our name, UUU Campers. Our intention is to not have our trips conflict with major, official, OUUC events. We usually plan two trips each year: a spring trip east of the Cascades, and a fall trip on the west side. In addition, some of us camp together in smaller groups, at other times. An outing is currently being planned for May. A limited number of campsites are still available at this time. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, or have any questions about UUUC, you may send a message to Rich Kalman via his email address as listed in Realm. | | | |
OUUC Resistance Lab will meet November 10 at 6:00 pm to talk about election protection efforts from the midterms and how the outcome can lead to social justice policies.
In addition, on December 8 at 6:00 pm we will meet to discuss the book by Sarah Longwell, How to Eat an Elephant: One Voter at a Time that outlines a roadmap for building a pro-democracy coalition.
| | | Help Wanted with Shelter Meals | Help OUUC serve those in need. Every 3rd and 4th Wednesday a group of generous volunteers bring a main dish and/or side dish to (feed 10 to 12) for the dinner of the 53 adults at the Unity Commons Adult Shelter. If you are able to help once, twice, or regularly, please contact Whitney Godby. | | | Volunteers Needed to Bring Sunday Flowers | Flowers add beauty to our Sunday services! Anne Radford will be coordinating Sunday flowers. If you would like to bring a floral arrangement you can sign up HERE, or contact Anne. | | | |
The Healthy Congregation Team will conduct a listening circle October 29, 6:30, Classroom 3 and you're invited!
The primary purpose of a listening circle is to create a structured, safe, and equitable space where participants can speak honestly and listen deeply without interruption, debate, or pressure to problem-solve.
In this time of transition at OUUC, we will ask participants for their thoughts about these questions:
- What do we want OUUC to be?
- What are the important conversations we should be having?
We will capture the ideas you bring to be shared with Rev. Mary and the OUUC Board.
| | | This week's opportunity: Pastoral Care! | |
Pastoral Care is a Ministry of loving presence and support. The Pastoral Care Team extends the care of the congregation to those who are in special need. We listen to provide supportive, one-to-one care to members and friends of OUUC. The Pastoral Care Team members are representatives of the Minister, and are invited to join by the Minister. Questions? Reach out to pastoralcare@ouuc.org
| | | Share the Plate (STP) Program - Applicants invited to apply | |
Each year OUUC invites community nonprofit organizations that serve the South Sound area (Lewis, Mason and Thurston counties) to apply online to the Share the Plate program. Bi-monthly awards are made to six organizations that align with Unitarian Universalist Core Values, with an emphasis on racial, economic, and climate justice. The amount of the grants typically total $3,000 - $4,000. The deadline for applications is October 31, 2026. More details and the application can be found at
https://www.ouuc.org/give/share-the-plate/stp-guidelines-and-application/ .
If you know of any deserving non-profit organizations that fit the criteria and might be interested in applying, please forward this information to them. We will be accepting online applications soon, but they can better understand the process and requirements and even download the application now. The application is very straightforward and not lengthy.

| | | Register for the 11/07 Immigrant Accompaniment Volunteer Training in Olympia |
You are invited to register for AGUA's next Immigrant Accompaniment Volunteer Training
Saturday, November 7th, 9:30am to 1pm (we ask you to arrive ten minutes early)
Olympia location to be announced after registration and will not be open to non-registrants.
In a time of fear and uncertainty, AGUA: the Accompaniment Group for Unity and Action provides transportation, resources, and support—because no one should face these experiences alone. We stand with our immigrant neighbors!
AGUA volunteers accompany and provide transportation for our immigrant community members going to court hearings, ICE check-ins, & other appointments in Seattle & Tukwila & Tacoma. We typically work in pairs to support accompaniments. At this moment in time, we are without capacity to coordinate visits with local detained community members at the NW ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) in Tacoma. Some of our volunteers are still visiting detainees and witnessing court hearings. We hope to continue supporting Vecinos Unidos in accompanying/transporting local family members to visit their detained loved ones, albeit through plexiglass.
We need volunteers from Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties to drive community members from their homes to Seattle and/or Tukwila. We also need volunteers with conversational Spanish to commit at least one day per month to this shared work. Most accompaniments take place on weekdays. If you are not available on weekdays, consider supporting local family visits with detained loved ones in the NWIPC, which has visiting hours 7 days/week.
To join AGUA, we require that you attend an in-person training. Our next training will be Saturday, Nov. 7th, 2026 from 9:30am to 1pm, location TBA in Olympia. Registrants must give at least one full weekday each month to our accompaniment work. We hope to offer another training in early 2027.
We are part of a growing community mobilizing to protect and defend the rights and lives of our immigrant neighbors. JOIN US!
Please send questions to agua.of.oly@gmail.com

AGUA Accompaniment Training Facilitators: Jean Eberhardt, Lourdes (Alfie) Alvarado, Marilyn Gilman, Holley Rauen, Anne Fischel (we are all volunteers!)

Wednesdays, October 28 - December 9 (no class November 25)
5-6 PM PT / 6-7 PM MT / 7-8 PM CT / 8-9 PM ET
Meets on Zoom, link provided when you register
This interactive series approaches history through compelling stories and personalities, and invites participants to translate history into our contemporary religious life and practice. Each session offers a forum for learning, sharing, and growth that can enrich our faith journeys.
If you took this class with us in the past, consider joining us again! It's gone through an overhaul in recent years to better reflect our commitment to equity and justice. In our exploration of Unitarian Universalist history, we seek to recognize its complexity, present the fullness of historical figures including some unpleasant and untold truths, and acknowledge when our ancestors’ actions and beliefs are not in alignment with our contemporary Unitarian Universalist thought and practice.
Fee: $25 per person.
For more information or to register, email Faith Forward Coordinator Betty-Jeanne Rueters-Ward. Deadline to register is Wednesday, October 14.
