A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Trivium families,

In my very first Friday Flash letter, I shared a brief selection from The Apology, one of Plato’s dialogues, wherein Socrates defends himself against charges of impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens. Ever the teacher, Socrates challenges Callias regarding the upbringing of his sons.

If your sons were colts or calves, we could find and engage a supervisor for them who would make them excel in their proper qualities, some horse breeder or farmer. Now, since they are men, whom do you have in mind to supervise them? Who is an expert in this kind of excellence, the human and social kind? I think you must have given thought to this since you have sons. Is there such a person?

Choosing a school for one’s children is no easier today than it was for Callias. We must wrestle with big questions, and we may not have answers even after much study. What are the “proper qualities" of a fully formed human? How are those qualities developed? Can they be taught, or need they be experienced? How do I know if someone is qualified to instruct in this manner? Is there such a person?

I don’t claim to model human excellence, nor do I claim that for this academy. I am too keenly aware of the many faults and imperfections, both personally and organizationally. Although not a model, I strive for human excellence nonetheless. It is through that striving, and building on the knowledge and lives of great individuals who have come before, that I feel confident in the direction and mode of the Archway Trivium pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

I wish to share how grateful I feel every day to be trusted to lead this academy. On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, I wish to express our gratitude. We are truly humbled that your answer to these big questions would lead you to us. It is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. As we begin this school year, you have my commitment to lead our shared pursuit with fidelity and tenacity.

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Headmaster

General Reminders:

  • Morning Drop-off is from 7:20-7:47 AM. Parents who wish to drop-off earlier must enroll in Early Drop-off Club.
  • Parents in the drop-off/pick-up zone must remain in their vehicle. Faculty will assist students exiting their vehicles, however, faculty are not allowed to assist students with car seats, so parents are highly encouraged to practice prior to the start of the year so that students are able to do that independently.
  • Please have your ORANGE or GREEN pick-up card clearly displayed on your dashboard during pick-up to help keep our process running smoothly. Pick-up cards will be handed out at Meet the Teacher in your oldest Archway child's classroom.
  • Due to limited parking, there will be NO walk-up option for student drop-off/pick-up at this time.
  • Parents with both Archway and Prep students, please review the pick-up procedure with your Trivium Prep students before the first day of school emphasizing the importance of arriving to the Archway Pick-up/Drop-off Zone promptly after school to be ready to load into your vehicle.

Archway students may not be dropped off/picked up in the Trivium Prep (6th-12 grade) traffic flow.

Parent volunteers can assist in serving the food, helping the younger children in the lunchroom, ensuring the lunch room remains clean and lunch period runs smoothly. You can sign up to volunteer once a month, once a week, or every day. It’s a very important volunteer role that also makes for a fun view into your scholar’s life at school!

All volunteers MUST be verified through the Great Heart volunteer application (Raptor) and have completed the Archway Trivium Volunteer Training prior to serving. The Raptor clearance must be renewed each year on/after July 1.

The credits will be tallied monthly and credited to your account within the first 2 weeks of the following month. Please email psolunch@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions regarding the credits. Children are not permitted to help with this volunteer position.

Volunteer as a Lunchroom Helper

This role was created to assist our 1st-5th grade classes and help keep the lunchroom clean and running smoothly. Please plan to be there from 10:45am-1:00pm. Younger siblings are welcome to serve alongside parents as a “Lunchroom Buddy.”

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
