It's HOT!! Resources to Help with Hot Weather

Summer is officially here! The first heat dome has arrived and now sitting over the mid west and east coast. Because the summers are getting hotter and hotter, it is always a good idea to update and refresh our knowledge on heat precautions and safety. The most important things to remember in high heat care is hydration, a body's vunerablitiy, and to keep cool. Everyone, staff and children, should have their own water bottle and/or access to drinking/refilling water. This especially important for outside time.

The first signs of heat stress (heat exhaustion) are dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, cramps,and/and or weakness. Act fast and move the person to a cooler area, loosen clothing, and have them drink small amounts of water. If symptoms don't improve, seek medical help. If reported symptoms have progressed/reported are elevated body temperature, irritability, hot dry skin, and/or dizziness call 911 immediately. Heat stress/exhaustion and heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is nor received.

It's important to have resources available to refresh your knowledge and to help educate others. A variety of resources have been collected from various agencies under National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
