CFCC Painting I Students Bring "We Are One" Mural to Local School
|
|
It is so amazing what our students can do. Recently, CFCC Painting I students put their talents to work creating this mural at the International School at Gregory.
The students received inspiration after participating in a workshop led by
North Carolina Museum of Art resident artist
Peter Marin on the history of Mexican mural making. The mural is designed to raise awareness of global learning and migration.
Using a template of a butterfly by
Cornelio Campos, provided by the NCMA, the students designed a mural of a butterfly and the earth, using the butterfly to symbolize migration and the earth to portray global learning. The mural displays the name of the school written in English, Spanish, and Mandarin alongside the words "We Are One."

CFCC Interior Design students Tess Luman, Brianna Lovins, and Kara Kube had the opportunity to work on a rewarding project last fall when they responded to a request for help from
Welcome Home Angel, a Wilmington non-profit organization that helps local families of children with chronic and physically debilitating illness or injury, ages four through 21. The goal is to create healthy and cheerful spaces within the families’ existing homes where the children can thrive and recover.

Finding Representation with Travis Corpening
Director, CFCC Nixon Leaders Center
December 17, 2019
|
|
While there’s widespread support of racial and ethnic diversity in science, technology, engineering and math jobs (STEM), there is still a lack of diversity and representation in these fields.*
Travis' 2018 children's book "The Adventures of Lucas and Alyci" was written to help combat this issue. In his first book of a series, Travis writes the science based adventure of a little boy, Lucas (named after his own son, pictured left, with Travis), who, along with his robot, Alyci, creates a different world.
"So many children watch YouTube or see certain videos and believe success just happens, and work has nothing to do with it. I grew up reading about how greats like Michael Jordan failed, but used failure to drive them to work and be better."

CFCC Associate Degree Nursing Program Ranked #1 in State for 2020
December, 2019
|
|
We are so proud to announce that CFCC's ADN program has been ranked as the #1 program of its kind in North Carolina. This recognition comes from a recent study by NursingProcess.org, where they analyze all 88 schools in North Carolina offering nursing education, and devise a list of the best schools for associate degree programs in nursing.
The ranking is based on four broad areas: academic quality, NCLEX-RN exam performance, affordability, and overall school reputation.
“We are proud to be recognized by NursingProcess.org for the accomplishments of our Associate Degree Nursing Program. Our outstanding nursing faculty is focused on quality education and student success. The success of our nursing students exemplifies the commitment CFCC has to prepare graduates who are committed and eager to be part of a team meeting the healthcare needs of our community.”
—Dr. Mary Ellen Naylor, dean of health sciences

Wilson Center's Shane Fernando:
December 5, 2019
|

Congrats to Shane Fernando, Executive and Artistic Director for the Wilson Center, for being named a w

We couldn't agree more! Shane's vision and drive to grow the Wilson Center as a learning laboratory has provided our students with exciting real world experience on top of classroom learning. Students are involved in every phase of operations/productions, allowing them to earn their degree and build a re

CFCC's First Holiday Tree Lighting
December 3, 2019
|
|
Our very first holiday tree lighting put a spark in our hearts, as we gathered around the tree, sang carols and enjoyed cookies and cider. Years ago, this tree was planted for just this purpose, and we think our lights added the perfect festive touch to the campus this holiday.

Aiming High: Presenting the Graduates of Our Sixth Electrical Lineworker Class
December 13, 2019
|
|
We salute 42 high-climbing graduates, who successfully completed our latest 10-week Electrical Lineworker program.
After completing the program, graduates can expect to earn anywhere from $17 to $24 an hour, out of the gate. As they advance and go into the apprenticeship program of their employers, they can earn a low six-figure income after three or four years.

Pictured at the right is graduate, Michael Rifici (left), receiving the Colby Haithcock Memorial Scholarship. Also pictured is Dave Anderson (right), who started this scholarship in honor of his stepson Colby, who passed away at age 16. Colby was passionate about Diesel trucks and becoming an Electrical Lineworker like his father. This scholarship is a tribute to Colby's life and dream of becoming a lineman.
