When working with an IT consultant, the beginning of the project is similar to what you would gather and consider before discussing a job with a home contractor.
The contractor (or in our case, the computer technician) needs to first look at the work that the project will be about. Review the scope. What will be involved when setting up your computer?
Here are some typical questions that need to be answered before taking on the project and discussing the labor costs. We try to offer a flat fee for setting up new computers.
1. What is the Microsoft Account (user name and password)
2. Is the data backed up? If yes, where is it backed up.
3. Do you need the back up restored?
4. Do you have email? (such as Gmail, Yahoo, Comcast, RCN/Astound, etc.) (and do you know your Password?)
5. What Microsoft Office applications do you have?
6. Any other software applications that are used daily (and the Passwords for the User accounts)
A Microsoft account is necessary in setting up a new device. By diagnosing the old computer, the technician can find answers before a new computer can be set up. If the User doesn't know their Microsoft account, it can be created.
The current charge for a diagnostic is $155. This cost will be waived if the project to set up a new computer is agreed upon.
Call us to discuss your project. We’re ready to support you.
